    Default Kicking TataSky Out...

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first post here. I need some help in choosing a new DTH connection. I am planning to give the TataSky connection that i have for more than 3 years a kick in the rear end. All because they do not provide the one channel which all of a sudden has become critical to my daily TV watching. Ten Action+. I have called the CC of TataSky for information about when are they gonna provide the channel. They all give vague answers which gives me the idea that they don't care. So i finally made up my mind that its time to change.

So i was wondering which one to go for. Since newer providers have come into the market, but i had turned a blind eye to them as i already had a DTH connection. For channel packages and cheaper price i am considering DishTV. But i don't know about BigTV (I hate Reliance) and Airtel. Please let me know about your experience about Dish TV. I am inclined towards it.

Nope... I was hoping to get some answers on this forum. But seems no one is willing to give any feedback.

I have been using DishTV since its inception days. Till now it has been a pretty good journey except for the odd hiccups. But don't expect a high quality customer-care. Personally, I feel all these operators are on the same boat. But I feel DishTV has pretty good packages. But that differs from person to person.

Vignesh, how is the picture quality on DishTV ? I read quality is not good, my monitor is 24.0", so i think it need good quality to display properly.

Airtel is fine. If you are looking at 174 channels. This time i am going for out and out quantity of channels. So DishTV and Videocon D2H are the only one who have crossed the 200 channel barrier. Videocon D2H has more than 250 channels plus is MPEG4. So i am a little inclined to it. But DishTV has been there since the beginning, so it has some experience. So its basically a fight between channels vs experience!

But my only question to all the DishTV and Videocon D2H owners willing to help out is that... when it rains and the connection goes out, how long does it take for it to come back? Does it take hours or just for 10-15 mins?

DishTV picture quality is better than average (not great) and should be OK for LCD TV/Monitor Picture quality of all the dth are same. There is hardly any difference and also from naked eye you cannot find out any difference in picture quality on any dth. Furthermore if really want great quality, you may opt for HD connection, but I won't recommend going for it since there are very few channels in HD.

When the set-top box and the antenna was new, connection usually came back in 30-45 minutes. Now after all these years(I think 8 years) connection comes only when the clouds get cleared.

Default Don't Trust Dish TV They Are Bigger Cheats

Dont go in for Dish TV. I am myself a Dish TV customer since last 6 years. I was not getting some channels. So after sending complaint, their technician came, fiddled around, and took away my STB and VC Card on March 14. It is ten days now, every day I ring up Customer Care and the idiots have teh vaguest idea of where the STB is lying. and that technician is not lifting his calls. So, for God's sake, DO NOT go for Dish TV. They are No. 1 Cheat DTH provider.

    Cool Kicking Tata Sky Out

I am myself in a dilemma. Main options seem to be Tata Sky, Airtel Digital, Big TV and Videocon DTH. The last two are yet to come up to the mark. Tata Sky's poor service you have already mentioned. I have Airtel broadband connection which is working well for the last 4 years, but I know next to nothing about their digital tv.

After a lot of thought... I had ordered Videocon D2H, and got the connection yesterday. Just because of the cheaper channels packages. And i must say that i am enjoying it till now. There are a lot of cool features which i have not discovered yet. But am happy with it till now. Only thing remains is the long term service, which only time will tell.

Posting this just to update on the status!

Its been eight months with Videocon D2H. And i think its long enough to give some feedback about my experience. The monsoon is pretty much unrelenting here in Pune. And i must say the connection hasn't been of any problems till now. Well they may have gone when i was in Office but i cant verify that!

I am not the type to write long reviews, but here's what i have found out about the connection so far:

    1. Packages are amazing and are cheap. Since VD2H is still a relative small player in this field, expect people to enjoy cheaper channel packages than others.

    2. Connection is very good. Rains haven't been a problem till now. During the last days of TataSky ownership, i have experienced frequent disconnections and that is something you cant complain about as well. Last day i went to the gym and they have a TS connection and there was no signal even on a sunny day!

    3. Clarity and Sound are very very good.

    4. The remote offers a lot of cool features. But haven't discovered them yet! Its cool device though.

    5. There are add-ons. But most of the basic necessity channels are included in the base package which you take. So less money to pay for 1-2 channels. I am on platinum pack which offers all their channels... I prefer no jhik-jhik about the channels. Have everything even if you don't need them!

    6. Got a new channel... don't know when, ESPN NEWS. Don't know who else has it. But its a cool one!

    7. Three non-stop movie channels all day long, the movies played are cool and you can watch them anytime. Its like having 3 movie channels like Max, Star Gold for free (I am not sure this is package specific, but you guys can look it up, i have the highest package so cant say)! The Music Space Hitz channel is another cool channel. Music all the time. All this at no extra cost and no ads! There are 3 PPV movie channels as well. Plus there's radio. So features are very cool too!

    8. The only negative i see is the sluggish interface. Its sometimes very slow. But hardly a concern!

So if anyone of you are worried about taking it... just give it a try and you wont be disappointed. Even i had doubts, but i have been proved wrong. Cant say about AB Junior's movies, but this is good!

If you guys have any questions, please go ahead and ask!
