Thread: Can I change STB

Hi Guys,
Lets say I have airtel DTH connection installed...so i have there STB and dish...
now can I change their STB to use some better ones???? or we always need to buy STBs from service provider itself???

You cant change it. Always have to be a new STB. Only wires can be reused!

I am having Sun DTH. Is it possible to change STB of others like dish,reliance bigTV,airtel etc in the same dish (the roop top device with airtel,dishtv etc).

If you change DTH provider service, you will have to buy new STB, dish, etc. As hellstorn_2004 said, only wires can be reused.

The STB is not portable.

The dish with the LNB module is actually portable but nobody reuses the previous equipment. You cannot say "use my old dish/lnb" and ask for any refund.

@DEVARAJU, what you wish to do is possible but very difficult (impossible for the end customer). The providers use different satellites. This changes the orientation and the dish has to be realigned. You will agree that this is not something you will wish to attempt yourself.

according to TRAI guidlines, all DTH operators are supposed to offer portability of setop box to their customers. I dont know whether all DTH providers follow the rules, but Dish TV for sure does.

You can choose Dish TV's CAM in your setop box, if its BIS compactable.

They are supposed to offer, but no one has offered to ensure that the same STB would not work with another provider. Guess they should start portability in DTH also just the way you have in mobile so u can use the same hardware with any other provider rather than getting restricted to provider specific hardware.
