Default Which DTH service is to Buy.

    Dear all,

I am using at present local cable network for TV viewing, which cost me INR 300.

I have one 32" SONY LCD Bravia Series (HD enable with 1080p four ports), One 14" Portable BUSH TV and One 21" TV. All are connected through cable and paying INR 300 for all these three TV per month.

Picture quality and audio quality is poor, except first TV where cable first connects. Then goes to another two TV through splitter at each TV point, and in these two TV picture quality is very very poor along with sound.

Only plus point to continue this setup because at three TV all family members can watch the programmers of their choice at the same time slot.

Now I want to buy DTH service. Which is the best and will satisfy need of all my family members.

Some body told me that in DTH one pro gramme of TV can display in all the TV in house, thus another two TV has no option to see their own choice. Is it true ?

At present I am paying Rs 3600/- to cable operator for the year (NO discount).
Yesterday I got SMS from Videocon DTH which offer 330 channels plus new gold sport pack for Rs 1690 plus 60 days free period. All with installation and all cost me INR 1690 ONLY. Immediately I have replied through SMS as directed by Videocon but till 16:30 hrs of 14.09.2011 no response received. (28 Hrs gone). Is it true that is videocon offer all these for Rs 1690/- ?

Please suggest proper DTH which satisfy my need. None of my family member interested in sport channel. We all interested in documentary channels, science channels, news channels and daily soap operas....

Expected response from all the IBF members....

    Thanks and regards

Looks like we are in the same boat.(except I dont have Sony Bravia !)
    I have 4 cRT TV's in -Hall + 3 bed rooms.(spacious flat)
Videocon 29" (Some what flat, 8 years old(rs 25K) ,Akai 29" (Big box -10 years old (Rs 20K)but better than videocon in performance +clarity) ,Bush 21" ( sharpest of all three ,11 years old and a LG (very recent buy) 29" cute Flat CRT (Rs 13K!!)

The cable guy gave me basically 2 connections with Parallel loop to other two TV's at that time. I pay now Rs 300 for all 4 !! reception is ok in some TV's and slightly grainer in the higher UHF channels in other TV's.

I looking to buy minimum 32" LCD/LED first ( They are offering exchange rs 1500-2500 for the old 29" TVs!!) and then a 42" LCD/LED later may be.

Note : DTH is an additional for me for 1 LCD tv but I will keep the existing too good to be true cablewallah @rs 300/month for 4 TV's.

I have been following DTH threads recently and I heard Videocon DTH is ok. You get fast service if you book thro internet I heard .
I think you better get box + 1 year free (Might cost Rs 4000 or so,depending on the package you like)
Rs 1399/1699 is right for machine+erection+2 months pack.

I just need 20 channels -all english movies including Movies now,WB+AXN,Zcafe, star world, Infotainment like National geograpic, discovery, animal planet,TLC,fox history Traveller,Turbo, and recent all CBS channels. May be ET,UTV Bloomberg,NDTv,CNBC.+MTV and channel V.
    That's it.
No news/No regional/ hindi movies nor serials etc
I want to buy the LCD Tv first and then get DTH immediately ( but not integrated TV + DTH package)

    Dear Tolkapiam,

Thanks for the response. I am very much delighted by receiving your response.

After reading your response, I may plan to attach LCD to DTH and other three kept with cable connection.

Thus I have to pay INR 3600/- (300X12) and 1690 for LCD DTH. thus total cost 4690/- per year. By doing this my family members will not annoyed because they get their choice pro gramme at their desired TV and among them who wants to get good quality and common choice is more then 65 %. In such case ^% % members will watch DTH at LCD. Thus I am planing.

I am very much Fed up with the transmission quality of cable wala and it turns to worst at the last TV in line / series in our house and coincidently it is LCD.

you have told that through net they do fast services....so which site is to be visited, please inform.

I am also planning to buy one 40" TV, but as it is learn that one should not put excess money in electronic gadgets. Thus i may go for videocon or WU. Wu is a good brand which I have experienced during my last visit to Mumbai. At corporate office of Tata chemicals at their waiting lounge i saw WU 46" (or 42"), which was describing the social activities of the company and etc...... to help visitors occupied till their meeting / call.
Performance is quite OK....but I do not know about performance of Videocon.....I only know that I may get Videocon 40" at sub 35000 INR level.

Expert comments are awaited for TV and DTH.

    Thanks and regards.

You need to have individual setop boxes for each TV., but a single dish will do. Most of the DTH companies offer this type of connection in the name of "parent connection". The parent connection is the main subscribtion pack (the monthly rental). Along with this you need to pay Rs.160 extra for each setop box for your TV. (This is in the case of Dish TV, as I am their subscriber).

If you aim at max no of channels, the package cost is 350/month.
Now, for your other 2 TV's two setop boxes are needed, so=160+160=320
    So, Total monthy rental = 320 + 350 = 670.

Now its upto you, which package to choose from!

Just remember one thing that your monthly cost would double from the present situation. If you are paying Rs 300 for cable to get all the channels in DTH you will need to spend around 550+ or go for an yearly package . This is applicable for only one connection, if you want multi room you need to pay additional money for that.

DTH providers have a concept called Multi-room/Multi-TV of two types.

The first one is a no-brainer. One STB for the whole house. All TVs in parallel and all TVs can watch the same program only at the same time. You pay the full subscription price of the package selected.

The second one is a true multi-TV concept wherein each TV can watch separate channel at the same time. But there are certain conditions. The conditions are as follows:
    • All TV connections must be in the same address.
    • Maximum 4 TVs in the scheme.
    • Each TV connection will get an independent STB.
    • The first connection, called the primary or parent or master, has to pay the full subscrption fee depending upon the package selected.
    • The 2nd/3rd/4th TV will get the same package as the primary/parent but it is available at a concessional rate of Rs. 160~200 pm (different providers have different rates).
    • These connections are called children or secondary connections.
    • Sometimes this type of multi-TV is available on high-end/high-cost packages only.
So what you are assuming is not true.

You will pay Rs. 300 for the cable and full subscription for the single DTH. This will depend upon DTH package selected.
