I was intrigued by all this discussion on digitization so I went on different websites and researched more about it. Let me explain it in layman’s terms. In India, TV transmission is provided in three formats analog, digital and terrestrial. Most cable operators provide analog TV service while all DTH operators provide digital TV service. Government of India has passed a ‘Digitization bill’ that makes it compulsory for all households to receive digital signals through a set top box.. Which means in order to watch TV you will now need to buy and install a set top box. A digital format provides better picture quality & sound and other benefits leading to a better quality service. Will keep posting as I get to know more about it.
