Arrow Need Advice in installing DISH - DTH DD DIRECT

    Hi Friends,

I am from Chennai and recently there is news all over chennai that from 1st July onwards there wont be any local cablewallah something like that and all people should have Dish at home. We relocated from aurangabad to chennai in 2009, at that time we were using dish tv in aurangabad, in aurangabad itself when we just forgot to pay dish tv subscription and the connection got disconnected, i purchased a local tonytone STB and connected it to the STB in short i just replaced the dish tv stb with the dd direct / tonytone stb and i could see all FTA channels on that satellite. But then since 2009 as in chennai we had a cable service in home right from begining we did not bother to unpack and install the dish, lnb, tonytone stb to watch dd direct / free to air channels.

Now i am planning to do a DIY or get some pro to help me fix the dish on terrace and see FTA channels on TV with the help of stb, so want to know :

whether any technological changes have occured since 2009 which will make my stb, lnb useless?

I want to know whether can i get the lnb, stb checked first and then call some person to install the dish.

While dismantling the dish the holder / or stand on which the dish is mounted was badly damanged hence we now need a new stand / holder / tripod type stand to mount the dish. Can we get spare stand from market? where ? ritchie st?

It is not like that my friend, our cable wala will still be there but they need to give you an STB to watch cable TV.

The new rule says that all providers must provider the service via a set-top box. This is not an issue with DTH providers as they were already compliant. Some good/reputed cable operators were also providing service via STB. But the majority of the cable operation were without the STB. They must become compliant now.

As regards to Cable vs. DTH, it is your choice. It is incorrect to label cable operation as crap. Some like Hathway provide excellent cable connection. Their connection is also digital and quality as good as any DTH.

You can still use your STB & antenne to get FTA channels. (DD's & crappy). For paid channels you need to opt for any DTH service / cable operator. If you opt for DTH service, call their service center and they'll help you out to get it done with your existing hardware, if compactable. I suggest that you call your previous provider itselft, as you have their hardware.

If you're interested in FTA channels, walk near any electronics store, and they'll help you out.

    Cheers!
    Nevin.
