    Default New HBO Channels

HBO has now launched two new channels in India, HBO Defined and HBO Hits. The channels were launched in December so its been a a good 6 months now and they are advertising free channels, so you can watch a whole movie or entertainment show with any ads.

The channel HBO Defined will show latest Hollywood and Bollywood movies. HBO Hits will show entertainment shows such as Game of Thrones, True Blood and many others.

Thinking that Tata Sky may be the first ones to launch these channels I was wrong, but instead these two channels are only available on Dish TV and Airtel Digitial TV.

The two HBO channels will indeed provide ad-break free transmission. But those of you who may remember, when HBO was launched, it was ad-free too. But let us hope that the two new channels remain ad-free.

Mark my words - TataSky will be one of the last to launch these channels. They are still using MPEG2 technology and using INSAT-4 satellite. The MPEG2, although not inferior in terms of quality, is not as efficient as MPEG4.264 which is the most popular. MPEG4 is able to achieve much more efficiency in terms of squeezing the data while maintaining the picture quality. So MPEG2 uses more bandwidth than MPEG4. INSAT-4 has limited transponders and TS is unable to squeeze more channels in. They were supposed to move to G-SAT six months ago but obviously have missed the deadline.

Im sure a big company like HBO would find advertisers! But why have it ad free first then have ads at a later date like HBO was (as J4K mentioned).

Presently those channels are available with DTH service providers only.....I guess? If one is willing to pay for the content, they will continue that as ad free!

    True.
I would rather pay for the channel then have to put up with long ads break in between a movie or a program.

Anyone who has Dish TV or Airtel TV have you viewed these channels? What kind of movies do they show? Any good?

I think they had a 30 days free viewing period aswell when it was first launched!
