Thread: DishTV vs TataSky vs BigTV

How do you compare the Big tv's tamil package with that of other providers like Dish TV and Tata Sky?

I have not done the comparison - all other things (quality, customer service, etc.) being equal, the comparison can be made on the basis of cost.

Check what is on offer from all and then decide. TataSky is superior amongst all DTH players in terms of service.

What has been written in the first post:

1. Dish TV offers more in content
2. TataSky offers better quality
3. STB User Interface is better in TataSky
4. Have not seen BigTV and hence cannot compare
5. Quality "is not equal to" quantity
6. All that glitters is not gold

is so true. I just heard that Tata sky is adding more channels. That would just knock out competition as "quality would equal quantity". Wonder what the ambanis would do?

Heard Tata Sky is adding Raj Tv soon. So they may add many more tamil channels in future.

I have TATASKY and DD direct plus.Wonder why people don't like DD direct,the service is absolutely free and you get some cool music channels that don't run Ad's every second.

You can also go to and check out all the channel lists for almost all DTH providers in India in a nice matrix form. Not only this, you can also search what all packages are available for a particular list of channels. I found it really useful for deciding which DTH package would match my interests.

I dont think anyone watches doordarshan now a days. Its because of the quality of its programs. In pre cable days, the quality was very good like buniyaad, hum log, chandrakanta etc.... but now its nothing to talk about. so no one except people in villages will watch dd even if it is free.

dont forget us ie Dish TV users we really need that channel at the time of Match... we dont get Neo Sports

its really strange that Dish Tv has not yet managed to show neo channels ... this doesnt hurts much though coz the matches are also shown on doordarshan ...

Hi every1 !!

I haven't used anyone of the services and planning to take 1 now. After seeing all the comparisons I think Dish Tv is good (quantity wise). Tata sky is good but the channels, the majority of people watch, are not coming together in 1 package. According to me Diamond Pack (220 rs + service tax) of Dish Tv is quite well and includes majority of channels.

what You guys say ?? is this package good with in this rang of price??

Nobody has told much things abt digital tv. plzz help me out to take better one.

Whatever you choose don't take DISHTV. It maybe cheap but you can not enjoy most of the channel due to poor (pixel) quality. Any channel with fast movement is really bad (Sports, music, Movie). I have one with Maxi 1 year. Thank God this month is the last month. I'll probably take BIGTV. It got Component out (probably for the future HDTV broadcast) and also it is with mpeg4, which is better than mpeg 2.

FYI. I'm from Bangladesh. Also I'm in the video and computer business.I don't know about the customer care (I installed the dish myself) but last 1 year I never lost Signal from DISHTV even for a day.

Thanks for your efforts for giving basic info. by comparison. If you would have added the regional channels, will be better picture.

Thanks for the information. I'm using AirTel Digital TV. It is delivering much better picture quality than any other DTH. Also I have to use only single remote to control both TV and set top box.

But I can't understand why I have to recharge it on every 15 days.

Also Signal weakens for a few seconds during heavy rain or storm.

here only u guys fail, mpeg-4 is compressed file format which is used to broadcast on internet, so mpeg-4 doesn't give that picture quality as mpeg-2 gives

For HD broadcasts, the Indian DTHP's will have to switch to MPEG4 or incur huge costs for bandwidth.

Till then the MPEG2 vs. MPEG4 debate will continue.

but in US they broadcast usin .mkv, and their channels are totally HD

I am using Dish TV for the past 8 months and have not faced any issues, Dish TV provides full chanles but NEO Sports is missing hope they will add it soon, I also have Tata Sky+ @ friends house comparing both of them I can see Tata Sky 2% to 4% good on picture but rest of the things comparing to price and quality Dish TV makes a way ahead.

Also do remmeber Dish TV is the first DTH in India and has a edge over other and has the maximum number of customers,

It looks unlikely that Neo will ever come to DishTV. I have given up on that. I wish, I am proven wrong.

its years passed now, the NEO channel has started but still its not on DishTV, as j4kix told it will never come on DishTV. The same is also for HomeShop 18 Channel

not buying dish tv just because they don't have neo, thy should rethink their strategy about neo channels in a neo loving country.
