Thread: DishTV vs TataSky vs BigTV

OK. I have made an Excel Sheet that gives a comparison based on channel coverage only.

1. Dish TV offers more in content
2. TataSky offers better quality
3. STB User Interface is better in TataSky
4. Have not seen BigTV and hence cannot compare
5. Quality "is not equal to" quantity
6. All that glitters is not gold

People can extend this discussion further. They can, for instance, comment on quality, service, support, web site, etc. on each provider.

You can download the XLS, edit it (for genuine corrections and/or additions) but write your comments in the post only so that they are easily seen. I did not consider FTA and Regional channels. But you can comment on the same too. Someone can add a Sun DTH column in the XLS.

Thanks for the list. I use dishtv and was planning to change to BigTV, but I guess I will wait. Music india channel is available for me in dish tv, channel 324.

I visted each of the websites after seeing your post and I think TataSky's is the best and users friendly one. BigTV's website have good interface but you will get very little information out of it. Dishtv's website has almost everything you needs to know but you will need to have a user's manual just for the site(from my experience).

The DishTV payment site looks like it has been designed and written by college students who are on 6 months internship/industrial training. The rest of the web site is OK.

I added SUN DTH to the list. I got the data from a brochure (so don't know how accurate it is). I didn't know how to put that drop down menu. And I also didn't know what you meant by (1), (2), (3) etc.

(1), (2), (3), etc. are add on channel packages as mentioned in the summary below.

Thanks for explaining. It seems DISHTV is the one which provides most channels. Does any of them actually provide DVD (or atleast CD) quality video as they claims they does. I know DISHTV doesn't.

I love to go with latest technology as possible can.
So I will go for Bigtv, its on MPEG4 technology.
But still i will wait for few months.

News 24 is available on Ch 575.

Your latest update didn't have Total no. of channels. Please make a comparison including regional package. So that actual total channel can be shown. Also include Sun DTH.

OK. I will. But it takes a lot of time. So please bear with me.

Update: Added some info about Sun DTH. But comparing Sun DTH with others is not fair at all. This is because Sun DTH caters for and provides South Indian Channels - many of which are not available in the other three. For South India, Sun DTH works much better as a package.

Download is not prevented. Use the latest post (# 14) for this.

Any DTH will be best for you provided you get the customer care that you desire.

What has been compared is objectivity (things that can be measureable and ascertainable). Other items such as quality of service, transmission, etc. are variable and not directly mesaureable.

J4X, few more small corrections in Dish TV :

1.Total TV is available on Ch 568.I guess type also needs to be changed.It is a Hindi news channel.

2.KBS worls is on ch.737.

3.SS Music is one ch 808

my humble request is dont go for BIG TV
I have very bad experience with that
no proper response from customer care
the listed channels will not come even after 3 months of installation
In southern pacakage (Tamil) only sun, jaya, K TV and kalainger TV will come
if u ask the customer care even for 3 months they will say only your problem is under solving status.
So dont go for BIG TV particularly in chennai
