Default Dish Tv firm fined by consumer court

Dish TV firm told to pay Rs 5k, costs

    17 Jan 2009, 0015 hrs IST, TNN

CHANDIGARH: The UT consumer forum has directed Paras Sales Corporation and New Era Entertainment Network Limited to pay Rs 5,000 as compensation and Rs 1,100 as litigation costs to Sector-44 resident SP Bhardwaj.

The forum also asked the company to immediately correct the alignment of the complainant's dish antenna so that he received uninterrupted services.
Bhardwaj stated that he purchased a Dish TV in April, 2005, and also subscribed to the dish maxi package by depositing Rs 300 per month.

Though, at the time of sale and installation of the Dish TV, he was assured of world-class service, quality entertainment and uninterrupted viewing, signals were always erratic and each visit of the mechanic entailed another expenditure of Rs 200Alleging that he didn't receive any programme on his TV since May, 2008, despite his monthly subscription being valid till July, Bhardwaj instituted a complaint in the consumer court. Notices were issued to the dealer and the company, which in its reply stated, "Paras Sales Corporation is only an authorised agent for selling of subscription packs of Dish TV."

In most cases, the sales rep. promises the earth and the heaven and would run after us till we pay the cheque. Once payment is made then we have to run after them to get the dish installed, STB properly set and all such things. these days the co.s are selling one year packs. so all payments received at the begining and then the customer is sent for a toss.
Hope this case would create more awareness and help getting justice for more harrassed customers

It all boils down to the awareness of the consumer. If the consumer is aware of his rights as in this case , then the companies cannot do anything. If there are more similar judgements against dish tv, then they shall be forced to improve their service.

i think we need to pay some amount(fees) to make complaints in the consumer forum. can you plz mention the amount spent on this? how much does one need to pay in order to lodge a official complaint in the forum and get results which may not be in his/her favour every time?

I think we must all join our hands together. I am sure that once Dish Tv has faced the heat and if it happens 2 or 3 times, then they will all buckle up and hundereds of others will benefit. Its all about activism.
