They must have seen the TS announcement yesterday and changed tracks.

But DishTV is not offering any upgrade advantage like TS.

Other providers will have to provide competitive pricing at preset Tata Sky is the lowest followed by Dish tv another consideration in the future will be provision of HD channels people will only be willing to pay more if there are more content provided also apart from the current HD broadcast of 2 channels Nat Geo and Discovery the other channels are upscaled. Are up scaled channels recordable in HD?

Default Just got a new TruHD connection

    Friends,
I just purchased a new Dish TruHD connection yesterday.

It was very difficult to find a dealer with the HD set top box. Finally managed to call Syed who offered me the connection for Rs 2990/

Installation took about an hour and within half hour my connection was activated.
I have 3 true HD channels
    - ESPN HD (Only during the FIFA matches. Else it shows a still image)
    - Nat Geo HD
    - Discovery HD.

There are 2 more, HD upscaled channels, Zee HD and Zee Cinema HD. The quality of these channels is the same as the non HD Zee and Zee Cinema.

But the true HD channels just look amazing. Especially the football matches, you can resolve the grass on the ground.. just too good.

I get 2 months free package with this install.. Worth the money.

Quite sure about this? I mentioned this possibility on other threads and some members (mainly supporters of the respective DTH) would not believe me and insist that they will be HD.

Does it involve changing the existing wiring from the dish to the STB also ?

The TV Set might also be the matter but since he is receiving clarity for the True HD channels upscaled channels are debatable of providing True HD clarity.

Got DISHTV HD installed in 1 day and activated in 2 hours:
    Currently getting :
    1. ESPN ( only FIFA matches 2 or 3 daily) in true HD 1080p
    2. STAR SPORTS ( Wimbledon matches) from 4:30 pm to 7:30 or later
    3. National Geogrpahic HD
    4. Discovery HD World
    5. ZEE TV
    6. ZEE CINEMA

    Out of the world experience!
Sports broadcast is awesome - you can see tiny sweat beads on the bodies
NG & Discovery - fantastic programmes seen to be believed

HD is what TV was supposed to be made for!

Zee TV is ordinary - may be upscaled

Zee Cinema - some recent films look much much better but not comparable to ESPN,NG etc.

Waiting for STAR MOVIES, HBO and other movie channels to convert to HD!

Worth the cost - 2990 for the STB, Rs 100/pm for the HD PACK but regretably u r forced to the platinum (highest) pack!

You cannot compare HD with IPTV (which is SD). That would be like comparing a ripe mango with an unripe one. The unripe mango is also good for pickles, panna, etc. but it cannot compare to the ripe mango.

To see full benefit of HD you must watch HD on a HD TV.

    But MTNL service sucks!!

Airtel does have IPTV but currently restricted to Delhi/NCR region. And BSNL also has IPTV.

The problem is that there has not been enough publicity on the technology. That is why there are not too many connections. Also people who are aware believe (rightly or wrongly) that IPTV will not be stable.

One of the advantages of IPTV is no rain outage. Airtel IPTV also offers time shift feature in which you can watch past week's programs for any channel - no recording required.

Yes your right, theres no disturbance due to rain
But I think if ppl shift from cable to IPTV there will be a lot of bandwidth problems

The advantages of IPTV outweigh dth then how come there are no efforts in pushing this form of technology?

I don't think their is any point of Comparision between HD and IPTV. Bothe are totally different and have different features.

    He Guys,

This may be a silly question but I am planning to get Dish TV TRU HD to use wiith my mewly purchased 42inch LCD HDTV.

Now, I am keeping the old TV and moving it to another location in my house for the house keepers.

I was on the platinum pack. Now that i am moving the TV within the same house, i need only basic channels on the old box normally but once in a while guests come over and at that time I will need the platinum pack on the old TV.

Now my question is whether VC Viewing cards may be interchanged between the two STB's? One is going to be Tru HD and the other is the regular all within the same house on the same Dish preferably.

I have a dual connection at home.

The VC is locked to the serial number of the STB. So VC of one STB will not work on the second STB.

Secondly, the parent-child connections are available on the Diamond and Platinum packs only.
    1. The parent connection (STB+VC) has to be subscribed to Diamond or Platinum pack.
    2. The child connection (STB+VC) gets the Diamond pack (same channels as Platinum but without the two UTV channels).
    3. Cost of the child connection is half of the regular Diamond pack cost.
    4. UTV and HD channels are not available on the child connection but if wanted can be purchased on a-la-carte basis.

So, I will advise you to go for the multi-TV (parent-child) connections because you need Platinum pack on the main TV anyway. On the second (old) TV, you will get 99% of the main channels at half price. The price of the basic package will be more or less same as the child connection. And when guests or someone visits you, they can watch all channels without hassles.

If you want basic channels only on the old TV, the two connections will be treated as independant connections. And you will have to change STB between new and old TV if you wish to do what you outlined in the guest scenario.

No You can not interchange VC cards as, Every VC is paired with one STB and same in your case, VC of one STB will not work in other STB.
