Thread: DTH Terrain-Channel availability

Hi,

Has anyone noted that there's this channel called "Hallmark Entertainment", which is one the classic English movie channel, unfortunately not available in any of the Indian DTH platforms?
Why is that so, when the local cable operators broadcast this channel, and the DTH operators dont?

Also, there's this BBC Entertainment, and FOXCrime, FOX movies which are not available in Dish TV, but available with TATASky!!

How are these channels determined, whether to be broadcasted or not by the DTH operators?

DTH providers have to pay the royalty fee to the content providers. They evaluate the P&L based on the fees they pay, the amount they can charge to the subscribers, the expected number of subscribers that they can get, etc.

Not justifying DishTV here. I think that they are quite pathetic. After being the first player in the DTH market, they have not bothered about the quality and content. They keep holding to the top position solely because they were the first and have had a head start in the number of subscribers. Subscribers do not normally switch because they have to pay for initial setup costs.

I know that there is not much market for the channels you mentioned but at least these could be offered as a-la-carte to those who wanted it.

I am getting my 4 year old Dish TV connection terminated on Jan 1 (platinum plan will expire) to get Tata Sky. Checked the new plans of Tata Sky and I think it will suffice my needs like bindaas world movie, Firangi and freaking new channels which are not available with Dish TV.

I wish they will too provide good services like Dish TV as I never made a single call between a span period of 4 years for issues.
