See the mail below. After the telephonic conversation with him, he agreed that all the channels are upscaled, except for Discovery networks, ten Sports and times movies. Its not worth buying the connection. Dish TV is fooling elite customers with their "30HD channels".

Hi,

I am planning to upgarde to a HD connection, ( I already have Dish TV
connection, VC No:0151053XXXX).
Prior to that,I need some clarification,

1.
The 30 channels so claimed HD channels, are they truely HD, or upscaled
contents? As far as I know, there's
Discovery, NatGeo, Times Movies, and Ten sports are some of the main HD
channels, where in the content is recorded with a HD cam.
Also, the channels in respective websites, they specifically mention that
they have a HD telecast. This is true for the channels I mentioned above.
But for other channels (like Vh1, cartoon network..etc I haven't seen any HD
telecast option from their side. So, doesnt that mean that Dish TV is
upscaling the content to HD?

2.
The channels mentioned in the HD starter pack, the same channels(the
upscaled ones, like Vh1, cartoon network..etc) are available with the base
pack (platinum).
Does this mean, that the same channel will be present in the channel list
two times? One the basic quality, and
other being the HD content?

Is it possible to give a demo?

Did you fill up the feedback form? If not, expect a call from them tomorrow coz I just help you out in that. They use a CSAT form for customer satisfaction linked through ur email and the CID in the last= Case ID.

If one looks very carefully at the queries raised and the replies, DishTv tried to be opaque/vague about the replies. But the educated/watchful consumer will easily see thru all the replies.

a) Whether channels are upscaled or not - there is no reply in writing.
b) Next question was about duplicate channels - SD and HD. Again no reply from DishTV.
c) Demo? No reply.

So effectively, none of the questions answered. Instead a lot of B**l S**t about packages, pricing, etc.

Now let me answer the questions.

a) DishTV is misleading everyone on HD. It is upscaling most of the 35 channels. The only true HD channels are NGC HD, Discovery HD World, Movies Now. ESPN, Star Sports, Star Cricket, SET MAX, and others will show true HD of some specific sports events such as Wimbledon, World Cup Cricket, IPL T20, etc. There is no set rules or time table for these.

DishTV is already using high compression for SD. Remember that they use the DVB.MPEG2 technology. Hence their SD compression is already lossy. When the same feed is upscaled to HD, the quality worsens further. In fact in such cases, SD is better that HD. The reason: crap in = crap out

b) I have confirmed from other sources that if you subscribe for HD, you will get the content in HD only. For example, you will get Cartoon Network from the HD pack and not the SD version. This makes it difficult for you to compare the SD and HD versions.

c) Demo? You should go to a dealer.
