Thumbs down Pathetic HD service from Dish TV

I have been using Dish TV HD services since August 2010. Let me tell you folks the quality is awful. Half of the time the signal quality is either not good or scrambled. Pictures are always scrambled.

Recently they changed the LNB after that the service became more pathetic. They claim they have 35 HD channels. Each one of them are upscaled and half of the time they are not available either due to poor signal quality or due to outage.

The customer service is all the more painful. Instead of serving they immediately ask for a paid realignment (Rs.150 + taxes)

    1) The number of outages have increased.
    2) All the HD channels (35 claimed) freezes and says signal not found, works very intermittently.
    3) Main channels like Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Discovery, NDTV India, etc. and many more channels are sometimes not available.
    4) There are various other problems like even if the recharge is done on time the STB shows recharge message and on the last it blanks off even when there is enough balance in the account.

I have been using Tata Sky in my other TV for the past 4years and have never faced such problem (allignment, outage, channels dissapearing etc...) I am strongly thinking of switching to Tata Sky. I think this is a severe breach in SLA with no fault of the consumer. Please suggest whether this can be taken up by a consumer court

From what I read in your post above I believe tata sky customer service is more responsive as compared to Dish TV. I had a long standing dispute with tata sky and just got Rs1200 refunded back into my account after some very annoying phone calls but in the end all is well between me and tata sky.
Tata sky also bothers to come to forums like this one to resolve issues but I am yet to see that innitiative from Dish TV or any other DTH operator with only exception being Airtel DTH.

I have tata sky HD and it works like a charm! The interface is excellent and recharging is easy.

I have no idea if this case would stand in a consumer forum but its still worth a try.

Now they are playing it safe by calling their 35 HD channels as services.

This has already been taken to the TRAI as they are misleading their customers for 35 HD channels, though they are upscaled.

The resolution provided to the end customer *which will be applicable to all the customers now *: They are ready to take the HD setboxes and will replace with the normal setup boxes.

    **Check attachment for more details.

If you are taking them to consumer court for other issues like outages etc. You need to have proper documents through emails, noted complaint numbers. These are the requirements :

    Customer Name -
11 Digit VC Num - XXX
Complaint number registered with dish tv xxx
    Registered address with DISH TV
    Contact Number
Ownership document or application form (SAF) customer copy

If you dont know what exactly the SAF form is, click here :
    http://202.46.200.213/downloads/Safform.dot

This was provided to every customer during installation process.

I thought to drag them to court, know all the formalities and even TRAI details but later thought - whats the point in doing this ? They will still be bad with customer service , and outages cant be controlled by the consumer court/TRAI. Offcourse, it will be complete waste of your time too.

You better replace your current connection to any other service provider.

If I ever opt for HD it will definitely be not some fraud service that upscales existing (crappy) SD to HD. Upsclaing an already bad quality SD PQ to HD makes it even more worse. I say to all these guys - please give us DVD quality video and audio first before talking about HD.

More irritating is that they convert the 4:3 pic size to 16:9 and claim 30% more picture size.

Reliance is now saying 250 channels in HD-like quality. At least they are (a bit) forthright about it. But even here the main add puts the "HD" log. Only in the fine print they say "HD-like quality".

So I say, "Thank you, sir. But no, thank you."

I am hoping (somewhat against hope) that very soon (< 6 months), these fraud HD channels will be replaced by real HD. I know I am a hopeless optimist.

    Default @ Dish TV Customer

Your HD connection, was it a new connection or upgraded the SD to HD. In this case, have they changed the antenna allignment? As far I know, Dish TV is providing their HD services from the satellite Asiasat 5, and not NSS6. HD costomers are now fed from Asiasat 5. Please tell me whether the antenna is still in the same position (which was East facing for NSS6)
    Regards
    Nevin.
