See what i understand from this offer is that:

Total purchase price =Rs.4990.
In this Rs.4990 offer you will get Stb, dish, lnb, installtion, activation and 12 months Subscription.
So If you count separetely all these then cost is much higher.
Here in Rs.4990 you will all these.
That means originally with offer the effective box price is very less for.

neo001, if you carefully go thru the deal, there is nothing free about it. DishTV is giving you the hardware at a big discount. We in India are always gung-ho on getting goods real cheap. The point to be considered is that DishTV (or TataSky) do not make much money on hardware sales. They make money on subscription. Iy is the old "shaving razor and razor blades story" - sell the razor cheap but the blades are costly. Same is true for home printers - they are really cheap but ink catridges is another story. Now most money is made in services. I am a Supply-Chain Management consultant and I know what I am saying.

To come back to DishTV offer, this scheme will make you their customer. Once you are a DishTV customer you will subsribe to their service - and will not change unless what you get is really crap.

I agree with you....but if you see nothing is free in this world and every company has to grow and therefore they provide these luricative offer ....i don't think any thing is wrong in this....even they are here for business.....an
above all with ....its the end user who is ultimately got benefitted...don't you think so....id you are from supply-chain management then you might be agree with as well...over all its user who will get benefit with that.

Oh! I did not mean that this was not a good deal. By all means one should inspect all quotes/offers and go for whatever is the best. But as in every deal, what we should do is evaluate:

a) One time costs, benefits, savings
b) Regular subscription charges for the packages of liking
c) Service network within the city/town (no point if DishTV/TataSky have a great support network in Mumbai but lousy in Alibag)

My point is that one should consider all of the above and then decide.

p/s BTW, I am a Dish TV customer.

I agree on this, and not arguing on that, what i am saying is any deals given by any company will results in good or in favour of user only...and end user will get benefits with that....though its diffeent that all companies will earn more profits and benefits with that deals also.

I beg to differ. I do not know on what you are basing your statement on. Let us look at the channel packages and pricing:

1. No one in the right frame of mind would ever subscribe to Dish TV's Freedom/Freedom Plus plans or Tata SKY's starter pack

2. Dish TV Welcome Pack is available for Rs. 262 per month, Tata SKY Family Pack is Rs. 250 per month. Here there is a difference of Rs. 12 extra for Dish TV but it offers two more movie channels.

3. Dish TV Maxi is Rs. 300 per month, Tata SKY Super Saver Pack is also Rs. 300 per month. This is the package most people will opt for and there is no difference.

As I said earlier in the thread, hardware and installation costs really should not matter in the long run. These are one time expenses only. In any case both companies keep offering "bumper" offers from time to time.
