Default Advantage of Dish TV as compared to Tata Sky

With Dish TV giving their set top box free, it will defiantly bring in more customers, as the word free attracts anyone. This is a great advantage for Dish TV and the numbers of subscribers will increase. The one main advantage of Dish TV currently is that the set top box is free, and they do actually have a wide range of channels to choose from, some of which Tata Sky do not have.

    Default Wrong Assumption

I am sorry to say that a lot of people are being taken for a ride by Dish TV. The statement that set top box is "free" is wrong since they are still charging around Rs 3500 initially which automatically covers the price of the STB! The rates are more or less same for Tata Sky. In case I am missing something, please correct me.
    Regards.

No guys. You are getting the STB free when you subscribe for dish TV services for at least a year. The current rate for MAXI pack is Rs. 300 per month. This makes it Rs. 3600 for the year. For annual one-time payments there is a discount of 10% which makes this cost Rs. 3240. Then there are installation and activation charges. So for Rs. 3500/- you are getting:

    a) Installation and activation
    b) CPE comprising of Dish+LNB and STB
    c) One year of MAXI package subscription
    d) They are also giving 60-odd Movies on MOD free (but this is a crap offer, IMHO)

So you are indeed getting the STB free.

    Agree with you just4kix,
this is really a stb free offer where you don't have to pay for your hardware you have to pay for subscription and installation and activation only as Rs.3600 (subscription) and Rs.390 for installation and activation.

Previously in the same offer you have to pay Rs.4990 and get 12 months maxi subscription free so if you calculate then you already come to know that at that time their is some cost involved for hardware as well.

Guys, I tell this to many people.

I am not saying DishTV is rubbish or TataSky is a collection of rogues.

But do not let the initial cost of equipment fool you. Just because DishTV is giving free STB, do not blindly sign them up (although it is a compelling reason). You decision must be based on long term commitment charges (subscriptions), packages offered, video/audio quality, etc. And for heaven's sake do not fall for the free movies thingy.

Note on video/audio quality: Quality depends upon signal strength. Note that different broadcasters use different satellites and hence signal of one DTH will differ than other by small variation. Thus at some places TataSky will look better than others, whereas at other places Sun DTH may be better. Test the signal quality at the same place and on the same TV.

Once again, I am not bashing anyone. I am very satisfied with Dish TV.

Well i didn't know that about Dish TV and about their extra charges, but for those people who don't do their research they will go out an buy Dish TV thinking that they have got themselves a good offer.
