For me BSNL is a Mixed bag.

Got connection for free under a trial offer, used it for 6months.
then shifted my home, waited for 4month for broabband to get installed.
since then, i am using it from past 2yrs. leaving out ocasional downtime and ghost billing. everything is fine.

Overall, i am happy with BSNL

U need to do some research of your own to find out which ISP is better. ISPs provide different quality of service in different parts of the country. I would suggest u to stick with BSNL. Get in touch with the nearest telephone exchange and enquire about the connection availability.

Get the latest tariffs for BSNL broadband from h**p://bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm
    Please replace ** with tt

Go for BSNL or Airtel any DSL provider will do but not TATA

I have been a Tata Broadband Customer in Mumbai for 6 months and I want to share my personal experiences with you so that you should go through the mental truama of being a TATA customer.First of all it is the king of downtimes, its not working most of the times.Customer Service is very poor and not existent,Technicians are rude and use your computer to check personal emails,These people employ goondas who disconnect the connection on purpose and use abusive and threatening language on the phone (Mr Bhavesh I am talking about you),Once your renewal time is near these crazy people will harass you day and night to get the renewal done.
FIRST OF ALL TATA PROVIDES SUCH EXCELLENT SERVICE AND THEN EXPECT US TO RENEW.THIS IS CRAP...
    AND TATA IS CRAP.
WORST ISP IN MUMBAI HANDS DOWN......

    @topic starter
1st tell us where do u live (if i missed it then im sorry)
coz it all depends from place to place (not in case of tariffs but CC/connection providing time/service etc)
in general bsnl is good value for money with a decent amount of speed, while others are quite costly compared to bsnl, but as i said its just not tariffs, other services also matters specially connection providing time..

p.s. BSNL doesnt have any FUP (fair usage policy), so if u r thinking of downloading lots of stuffs, then its good for u.

As far as FUP & Cost, BSNL is the best. And they do not send Goons to collect default payment. But as we all know a public sector has its own drawbacks which however they try will surface. But after FUP, BSNL is surely to gain.

I have worst experience with BSNL in West Bengal which includes frequent disconnections , low speeds and lots more. I'l be applying for Airtel Broadband next year.

only reliance in India giving broadband connectivity on international standards, all their connectivity(data+voice) is on optic fiber so hardly there will be any packet loss and speeds are constant all day long not even a single KB drop in bandwidth, here many people say its expensive, 256 UL from BSNL costs 750 in which u get 28-30 DL rate whereas on reliance 300KBPS plan costs 800 pm in which u get 37 KBPS flat speed which is pure unlimited one more advantage of reliance metro Ethernet is that u don't have to worry about SNR value, line anu etc, and their max speeds are upto 10MbPS.
