    Default Bsnl query

    i have a bsnl home 500 limited plan and using windows....but i am thinking of shifting totally to linux....i also have a nokia seimens C2110 router....now when i connect to internet i need to double click on the bsnl icon to connect....now when i switch to linux how would i be able to do that??
    i do not have a router's driver's cd with me.....can anyone comment???

    u are presently on Bridge mode.
    shifting to PPPoE mode [connecting from the modem with ID & password saved in the modem] would make your modem system independent.
    for changinf the configuration, u can access the modem from your browser by using the address 192.168.1.1 and user id & password both as "admin"

    change your modem config from bridge mode to pppoe mode from windows and after that install/boot linux ... this should work for you.

    ohkay i'll try that....but can i switch back to bridge mode in linux as i have to download in bridge mode as it doesnt require port forwarding....also how would i connect from there???

    i am not very sure about bridge mode in linux ... wait for someone else to clear your doubts. do check back

    Configuring the connection in bridged mode in the latest ubuntu 8.10 is similar to windows, complete with wizards.

    hmmm..ok...but i wont be using ubuntu....i would be using red hat...so i'll just have to do that and check first...i can do a dual boot to check wether it works or not...i'll do that in a day or two....will keep you posted
