One of the members from Bangalore had a very good impression about Airtel. If you are considering BSNL, please check here

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.

If you are a heavy downloader, you can choose 500, 500 C or 500 C+

Sometimes there is a downtime - this happens if your line is bad/old. At such times, they take a lot of time to give you a new line/port, etc.

I have been running on BSNL for over 18 months and my downtime has been twice for over 15 days. But since they replaced my line/port, the connection has worked without issues.

Since you will be going for a fresh connection, you are less likely to face problems associated with an old line. BSNL provides the cheapest connections around. It may not be the best but it is pretty good. Also with some plans you get rent-free landline. BSNL landphone is very useful because most of the India toll-free numbers work with BSNL/MTNL only (but this could change in future).

That is my personal opinion.

Thanks.

There is no definite answer to your question. It depends upon the following:
  • Is the telephone line already available till your building?
  • Are there free ports at the BSNL exchange?
  • Does the exchange have enough stock of modems?

In my city, a friend of mine got the connection in 3 days flat. My own took a couple of months.

Although BSNL has an online application facility for BB request, many report that it does not get serviced. Filling a written application (form is available at the exchange) is the best method. I had also filled in an online application and submitted a written application 15 days later. So I cannot say which method worked for me.
