Default Which ISP to go for public IP? Best vendor for buying domains?

    Hey guys, need your help..

I need a public IP to my server pc to host my domain and website. I do not want to go the domain/website hosting way for the cost factor involved over the long term. And since I know most of the things on the hosting side, I prefer to do it myself.

Question is which ISPs offers public IP (whether static or dynamic, does not matter to me) and at what prices? Has anyone done that research amongst you that you can share?

Another question is which is a good vendor (in India offcourse) for buying domains for a longer term and gives good deals?

    Let me know..

    Thanks!

    -Ghanshyam

I have an alternative for you:

Try to calculate the amount of electricity you will use every month to keep your server online and I am sure it would be a lot more then $2.95 per month and Lunar pages provides you hosting for $2.95 per month besides you wont have to worry about maintaining your server.

I appreciate your idea of hosting your site from home and almost every single webmaster thinks about it at one point or the other but only a few of them try it and all of them move on to buy shared hosting for a much lower cost.

I have been a webmaster long enough to advice you that don't waste your time on hosting at home and use that time to develop your website.

For buying your domain the best place I can suggest is : Name - Domain Name Search and Registration from Name.com where domains are cheap and you get a very easy interface to activate google apps and google mail along with your domain all with a click of a button.

You do not need a vendor in India to buy domains just go with Name.com and you will not regret it.

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines but some issues I saw are:
    1. For windows hosting (which is what I want to do) the general rates are more. The Lunar is around $10 a month which is kind of more for a starter like me.
    2. On the Database side, most of the hosting sites (Indian hosting sites) I saw appeared to support only about 50MB of MS SQL Server/MySQL which seemed too less.
    3. Whether these Non-Indian hosting sites would accept Indian Credit Cards and extra transaction %'s by these CC companies.

Going with hosting services is also what I would like to do, given the peace of mind, electricity bills and non-maintenance of the server. But somehow I have been holding back because of the above uncertainties.

Since I see your location of Delhi, aren't there any issues while going with your mentioned sites or any other Indian sites which can give me better deals?

Note: I have plans of starting up different websites in near future, so multiple domains is a need..

    Appreciate your inputs!

Windows hosting is more or less the same. Try a different host as some of them are only $1 per month for beginner plans.

On the other hand if you try Linux with Cpanel it will make your life so much easier in future for example whem you have to change hosting it is much easier with Cpanel then any other control panel.

I do not understand your fascination with India hosting sites. I being a Canadian have never bought Canadian hosting for a simple reason that Americans are the best in the industry and the cheapest.
Hosts like hostgator and bluehost don't have such limits.

I have never used my credit card for paying for hosting. I use paypal and it works perfectly fine because almost all web hosts accept paypal.

Sorry about being a little blunt here but your idea of hosting your sites from home is "stupid"

I don't know any Indian sites with better deals and USA is the way to go when it comes to hosting. My location does say Delhi but I am a resident of Canada and I have never had problems with payments.Paypal does it all.

1 domain or 10 just get a shared hosting plan and you will be fine.

Last but not the least :

Do not go with a webhost because they offer you a free domain. Register your domain with a good registrar whose main business if registering domains such as name.com or even godaddy for that matter.

I personally like name.com for the ease of use and it does not have any nonsense like godaddy does. Its just plain and simple.

Thank you for your inputs. Windows Host is a requirement since most of the applications I have are developed in Asp.Net and I do not want to waste time/energy to make them Mono complaint (.Net on Linux i.e.).

I do have a paypal account and considering your inputs, hosting company is the way I think I would go.
