2011 ! and still no good broadband!!!!

Totally agree and feel your pain. While there are some options for me from BSNL - there is still a big price difference (high cost) to get a reasonably decent broadband speed. When are we ever going to catch up. Seems odd seeing that most of the IT professionals of the world come from here and we still have embarassing connection speeds.

    We're still talking in kbps!!!!

    Did I mention...
    We're still talking in kbps!!!!

When are users in India going to actively wake up to the rest of the world using such fast speeds at low prices and demand we have the same!!

For ex: In the U.S. where your earning power is relatively higher to standard job equivalents to employees in India, they still are able to get ridiculously higher speeds at much lower prices.

The latest price list for example of Time Warner Cable (ISP & Cable TV provider) for an Internet connection (RoadRunner Broadband) only of minimum - note, MINIMUM speed of 10 mbps is $29.99/month!!!!

That's just 1,358.09 INR/month for a 10 Mbps connection with no FUP -completely unlimited through fiber cable!!!

and note again, that's for a truly, real UNLIMITED connection - meaning no Fair Usage Policy crap where your speed will lower/change if you use..... TOO much internet!!
AND, supplied through a fiber optic cable and no DSL equipment!!!!
AND also includes Free Internet Security software, Free Parental controls and Free WebMail clients with multiple accounts, 24/7 customer support (that actually operates & works - tested) WITH a 30-day money back guarantee - no questions asked IF you're still not happy with all that.

And we're still discussing in kbps 'super speeds'.
    When will it change here!!!

For this same price in India, the best possible equivalent is from BSNL (UL1350 plan) with 4 Mbps speed - BUT upto 20 GB usage only and then 512 kbps after that!!! - and that's our best option!!!

The closest option I have, as a Home User, for fastest UL speeds is the BBG Combo UL 15000 for Rs. 15000/- and I only get 4 Mbps speeds UL - no FUP >> 4 megabits per second (which means it will download at the Max speed of 500KB/sec and it costs Rs. 15,000/- and that's the best plan I've seen available for home users, which at that price range per month is basically unfeasible for most home users. (A whopping 331 dollars per month for not even half the speed you get in the U.S. at 30 dollars per month!!!)

My younger brother recently came down from the States and was laughing at our so called, boldly advertised high-speed, lighting fast 512 kbps speed connections!

We're still talking about kbps!!!! >

P.S. The prices quoted here are the actual up to date prices as listed on their respective websites / exhange rates at the exact time of this posting.

Yeah, if some ISP comes up with a magical 10 mbps plan @ 1400 Rs. The users will kick out 2000 GB on the first month. That is internet indian style. And after 6 months we will have to pray beside that ISP's grave.

Thanks Axel! Refresh cos I just updated the post with a few more facts collected.

    Straight up Mickey!

Agreed on the amount of usage but so what - the same happens in the U.S. as well. It's definitely not any thing as 'internet indian style'. I know an American colleague from Houston who bangs out close to 1 TB of usage every month!!! So actually we're not all that bad. It's just that it's so uncommon now to get a decent speed anywhere (work or home) that when we get the chance to sit on a connection like that we lap it up as greedily as we can because sadly we know it won't last too long.

They even have their Netflix account merged with their cable account so through one cable box they get HD channels, around 500 TV channels (with capacity to expand to a 1000 and more & stream live Netflix content where they can just go online on their TV, select a DVD and stream it in real time AND that juicy damn 10 Mbps connection!!! (I think that costs just about $99/mo.!!)

Well we shall not compare our technology with the one in US or Europe. that would be too bad.. but atleast they can give us fair amount on the money that we give them.. i dont know how much it is fair to say that you get slow speed because the infrastructure fund is relocated on cheaper calls.. my question is how much bucks do you generate from 1+billion people saying that you are providing cheaper calls.. wtf..
infact terrible to see people cheering up with 1paisa/sec.. go get some life..

still getting 9200bps on 3G... face it.. Indian telecom is all bullshit.

A chopper carrying the CM of Arunachal Pradesh goes missing and it takes 1 week to find the crash site(found by locals not Govt). Korea will soon be getting 1 gbps and we don't even have a decent 1mbps plan. Someone wrote in the forum that he was getting 20mbps for Rs1000 in France and all we can get for Rs1000 here is 1mbps. 3g is the new sensation in India whilst the world moves on to 4g. We are buying F16s whilst America has stealth bomber like B2 and F-117.

The bottom line is that India is always a step behind...always!! Seems like we have a thing for outdated technology. And our prime minister says India is technologically advanced,I wonder what he was referring to? Maybe he was referring to how fast funds for 2g,Commwealth games gets deposited into swiss banks accounts of our honest politicians?

P.S Finland made 1Mb broadband access a legal right in 2009 and would make a 100Mb broadband connection a legal right by the end of 2015. I guess all us torrent enthusiasts now know where to relocate

will you get a subsidy for the electricity you used
(as domestic consumer) in Western countries or South Korea or France ?
What will you pay for a cup of coffee in France or Japan or S.Korea ?

In Tamil Nadu, the more air conditioners you use the Government
pays out of Taxpayer's money subsidy to TNEB.
Produce/purchase 1 Unit at about average Rs 6 /per unit and distribute free and at rates varying from Rs 2/=per unit to Rs 4/= per unit.
Cost of production/distribution purchase from other States
Same way for the petrol/lpg/kerosine and AirIndia !
Govt will give subsidy in crores. ( 1 Lakh crores 2 Lakh crores etc )

In spite of recent increases WE still get a subsidy of around Rs 200/= to Rs 250/=
for each domestic LPG. A cool Rs 3000/= per year ( average )

Same way , I want to download a movie ( pirated ) at a high speed in BB and expect Govt to reduce the cost of service.

No. I also get the subsidy for the Electricity I use. legitimately, without any fraud !!! I do not get any Ration items as above BPL etc .
( used more as an identity card for all purposes ),
Of course in some Northern States , farmers tap directly the electricity DIRECT from the feeder lines !No Bill No payment /No subsidy !!!

Just an example how each system works in India.
    Broadband./cellphone services no exception.
