Hey guys...

I've been living in the US for 7 or so years and I was looking into figuring out what would be the best unlimited broadband service in Mumbai / Bombay.

I would be living in the Andheri area where in the past I've used MTNL DSL, VSNL Dialup (long ago), Tata-7Start Ethernet Cable Internet.

I'd like a no hassles, reliable high speed internet package that wont have me PULLING my hair out when online.

I've hated the 7star / Tata "LOGIN" pages. Its irritating to have to log in every time and on every machine in the house (our place has internal CAT cabling all through..)

Thoughts? Advise? Options?

PS: I surf a lot, download torrents (Linux Distros, OSX86 Distros, Windows Servers, MSDN, DVD ISOs, DivX, FLACs, Mp3s etc)

I am also wondering why we dont have accurate numbers, surveys and reviews of ISPs using a DSLReports or SpeedGuide.net measurement mechanism. I did go an look at the SG.net stats for Bombay & then for Mumbai & then for Andheri.. etc.

I am wondering how many actual samples / users info are those stats based on.

PS: I have lowered expectations as compared to the US but want to find the best possible.

Only two ISP can match your requirements as of now in that area BSNL, AIRTEL try them

What parameters do you look at for selecting the right broadband at home.. Whats are the terms and hidden messages. I would prefer to get a certainty on my mobile bill every month and would be surfiung the net for say average 2 hours every day on sites with video/text/music etc.

I hv chosen the tata indicom landline at home and the walky instrument is giving a big pain.. poor battery life, bad noise, poor service.. not sure if I want to extend with Tata Indicom.

Hey you can go for unlimited plan in airtel and you can topup the speed by paying additional charges.

the basic unlimited speed is 256 kbps , but if you topup with extra plans you could get upto 1 Mbps and i guess so, not sure about that.

for more info, i had installed airtel when i was in bangalore, the basic unlimited is 750 rupees per month, but i need more speed so i topup the speed to 396kbps, so i paid 999 rupees per month.
so if you want more speed you have to spend more.
