Default Why do you wish a person "many happy returns of the day" on their birthday?

The happy returns on your birthday refer to solar returns - the day the sun returns to the position in the sky it was in when you were born. A horoscope is drawn up for the precise moment of your solar return, in order to predict your year ahead - hopefully a happy one!

The precise moment of your birth is unique. because the solar system changes every moment. so even if the Sun returns to the same position, the other planets and stars would have moved on.

true, even the sun might not be exactly in the same place.
relative to what are we talking about? the milky way?
even then the arms are rotating and the sun is moving with it.

If it is just relative to the Sun and earth relative to earth's orbit
it might come pretty close, but the precession might put it a bit off.
