Default My Movie collection by iorhld

    hi,
this is my DVDRIP collection.i know i am a "cheapo" because all i have is for free off torrents,i would like to have few of the movies on original DVDS but that remains just an idea for now.i am a big fan of romantic comedies and oldies, which take weeks to download because of very less no of seeds.i also spent the final two years of my college watching star movies, HBO and ZEE studio, and ended up watching over 750 movies but hate these 3 channels now because they have added english subtitles and have veryy big logo

i would like to add -the movie named "candles on bay street" took me 45 days to download off torrent.
some of these movies are in the IMDB top 250.
some of these movies are very very old,in BW and are remastered.
"garden state" took me 3 months just to find out i was actually searching for it because i saw it on star movies one late night and i was half asleep and late night movies are not listed in the newspaper schedules and i didn't have a stable broadband at that time.
some movies are from my childhood days from which i remember just some scenes and i go to IMDB "i need to know" forum and ask there.

    @ iorhld

Keep an eye on the Hard Disk also friend. The torrents involve a large number of read write cycles when compared to direct downloads.

    @iorhld, Created your own thread.

This is a nice collection. DVix/XVid are fine to be seen on a PC/laptop. But these downloads suck big time when seen on large screen with a true HT system. I stopped such downloads months (if not years) ago. In fact, I am now officially buying all of them. The latest in my set (XVid --> Blu-Ray) are:

    1. Analyze This / Analyze That
    2. Star Trek Movies I to VI

I understand that not all people can buy movies - and it is not necessary also.

But enjoying movies truly is another thing. More than 50% of the movie experience is the sound - here I differ with George Lucas who says that 50% of the experience is sound.

    One can always rent movies.

shawshank redemption is no 1 on imdb top 250,i have it in my list.
but to generalize things ,i stick to romantic dramas
currently i am searching for movies from the early 20s and 30s.i simply love the signature crackling sound.

@ just4kix-call me crazy but i sit 50 cms away from my monitor and my listening device is a good old leather headphone to cut out outside noise.DVDrips work for me because my screen is just 17 inchs.

but i would debate you with your opinion of larger screen being more enjoyable because our eye can't focus on such a large area all at the same time.moderate size screen works the best, but that's my opinion anyways.also unless the sound is "real" 5.1 there is no use of a theatre system.plain old 2.1 with good bass is best and that's why i prefer headphone so as not to miss even a single bit of audio.to get an awesome experience i generally watch movies late at night, after 1-2 am because that way i can focus fully.and i even do crazy things like use post-it stamps on the LED indicator of my monitor and CPU,and close the num lock of keyboard!!!

    currently downloading

a letter from an unknown woman (1948)
    a little romance
brick (a must watch film noir and its language is totally "punked")
    charlie bartlett
    high fidelity
    lars and the real girl
    leap year
    little manhattan (pehla pyar!!!)
    love liza
    my blueberry nights
    napolean dynamite (sick comedy)
    penelope
    shopgirl
    splendor in the grass (1961)
    sixteen candles (brat pack movie)
    the station agent

also currently watching TV series online

    big bang theory
    beverly hills 90210
    one tree hill
    30 rock
    the office (US)

OK. To each his own, I would say.

But why is it that we go to cinema halls to watch movies. Because of the large screen and sound experience.

You have not felt what a Home Theatre feels like. I invite you to sleep over at my home. When you watch movies having 1080p clarity on large screen and booming DTS HD Master Audio sound.

Yes. Even the average sounding Bose Accoustimass AM 10 with twin speakers per channel and the bass module feels great. Come over, experience it and we shall talk again.

If you are into romantic comedies, my favourite is Spanglish, check it out.

You are also missing A Fish Called Wanda - it is not a romcom - just a comedy. But one of the funniest movies I have seen.

From the romance genre, you should have:

    1. Notting Hill
    2. When Harry Met Sally
    3. Four Weddings and a Funeral

    seen all four.
i think "when harry met sally" is considered to be the benchmark for romantic comedy.
"i will have what she is having!!!"
