Hi,

Just wanted to make everyone here aware of certain issues with Airtel, more so to serve as a warning for everyone else. I have a 1 MBps Unlimited line

1. Billing Issues: I checked my unbilled charges to find an additional charge of INR 100 under the line item DSL charges. On checking with Airtel customercare i was told that this is for 'PC Secure' services. My issue with this are
a. Under my plan 'PC Secure' is a free service
b. I DID NOT opt for 'PC Secure' since i have my own antivirus
They have now noted my complaint and are supposedly rectifying this mistake

2. FUP Issue: As a heavy downloader i have run up against this supposedly within 9 days. The limit being 100 Gb (for 512Kbps, 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps). Now checking my account details at the Airtel website it turns out that i have only downloaded 90 Gb. Hmmm! So i wonder that a full 10 hours ago when i was still at 86 Gb why was the limiter already put. I have raised a complaint regarding this as well. So people, please check if they misusing the FUP limits as well

I am planning to buy a wireless router for that purpose and I want both the connections i.e cable and wifi. Anyone advice me how to make it possible. Also please specify the wireless router to be bought for this. I have Beetel 220BXI (ADSL2+MODEM) router with my cable connection. I dont want to call airtel for changing this as I have heard that the modem they install for wifi can only be used for wifi connectivity and cable connection is not possible. Please help me out.

Airtel Unlimited Plan User: Broadband Policy

*...

Great informations about unlimited broadband plan:

Reasons for slow internet connection - (As per the Airtel Field Engineer statement)

* Airtel provides broadband as dedicated port for every users, but its shared bandwidth (If more user access might lead to slow the speed of your connection), but its not dedicated bandwidth that was offerred then what is the use of dedicated port ? and due to copper connection (the cable) you may experiences 20% loss of the actual broadband what they offer.

So 20% + shared bandwidth will decided the speed of your connection.

Note: currently I am using 256 Kbps plans, but receving 170 Kbps only and above is the detailed information or support provided as explaination.

No online or written or signup form does not mention any broadband policy:

* Airtel does not have any website/webpage to show there customer or educate the customer about the broadband policy... like how to claim refund, if the issue or problems was not resolved with in the stipulated time as promised and what will be offered to the customer as compensation in means of subscription or money or detection in the monthly bill or offers etc.

Note: When requested the company policy, they claim to check the "Telecom Regulatory Authority of India" web policy...what an idea! It seems Airtel does not have any policy.... to backup...

Hi All,

Hi All,
I have some queries regarding Braodband and Airtel Broadband specifically, which I am sure you will be able to help out with your expertise.

First, a brief background.

I am based in Pune.Am into IT but not much technical hand-on, so I dont experiment much with settings etc.

I was on a Limited Broadband till 15 Jan, after which I migrated to Rs 749 Unlimited broadband-m 256kbps.

I was and am still currently on PPPoE, meaning I have to dialup from my computer to access Broadband using a userid/passwd. Have aBeetel modem provided by Airtel.

After migration, I have noticed a few things and I need your advise.

1. The broadband connection keeps dropping off. Sometimes, it will get disconnected on its own although the dialup shows it is connected. I have to manually disconnect and re-dial. it becomes a problem if I keep my laptop on during night for torrents. It is on through out night and in the morning, hardly anything has been downloaded.

2. The torrent speed has surprisingly dropped. Initially, when Usage based plan, I could get torrent speeds upto 70-80 in night. Now, hardly 30-40. is it right/ok based on your experience?

Now, the queries :

1. What can be done to resolve issue #1 ? Should I change my setting to "Always on" broadband ?
I believe the technical term is a Bridge connection ? is that correct ?? Will that resolve the problem or should there be something else ? Will "Always on" Braodband impact my speed ??

2. Issue #2 : Any tips to increase the download speed of the toreents?

3. I read through some topisc where the suggestion was to use PPPoE for Unlimited and Bridge for Limited Broadband. Why is it so? Again, which should be used ?

4. Basically, what I want is that I should not get disconnected when I leave my connection on during night or normal surfing, which did not use to happend before. What should be done to resolve this ? Change of connection type or somne settings ?? I have not still complained to Airtel as I want to undertand the problem first, before I complain and then backtrack because of the crap thrown at me by their technical team.

I hope I have clarified and you will be able to help me,

Thanks
Rohit

Hello,
I have an airtel broadband connection with the Turbo 1299 plan (Day: 512 kbps / nights 1 mbps). I find it very strange that the following sites are slow most of the time. youtube, rapidshare, megavideo, megaupload, etc.

Basically sites that stream videos and offer downloads are slow. I get a download spead of maybe 20 kilobytes/sec. However with torrents etc I get a speed of around 64 kilobytes/sec or 120 kilobytes/sec at night. I had a Tata Indicom internet connection and always used to get around 50 - 60 Kb/sec for the above mentioned sites.

I am really comtemplating going back to Tata Indicomm although it is more costly.

Anybody else notice this behaviour ? Thanks....
