A tiny micro battery has been created using the genetically altered virus. This has been made to power miniature electronic devices used for controlling drug delivery and tiny lab-on-chip applications. First a template has been made from the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and it was coated with alternating layers of positive and negative electrolytes and then the genetically altered M13 virus was added. The virus was so designed that they acquire negative charge amino acids on surface to gain affinity for positively charged cobalt. When this whole assembly was dipped in the solution of cobalt ions, it coated the virus to increase the surface area for storing the charges. Such a nanotechnology would be of great help in future technical developments.
