i did a bit of research in books (not i net)... what i beleive is that madira is all about the local/country liquor available in various forms and geographies .. Todays Liquor is only a higly developed version of same..

yeah.. Madira was Raw Liquor.. so it must be Country Liquor.
Madira never had any chemical treatments associated to it.
