    Default Recipes for diabetics

Diabetes is one of the major diseases in the world, a silent killer; and people from Indian sub-continent are more prone to type II.

Diet is a very important part of diabetes management. Post here recipes which you think will be helpful for diabetics: tasty and nutritious, the recipes must be low on sugar (natural or added) and low on fat...

Well i know that methi is very good for diabetics as its a food which lowers the sugar in the body!

You can either use fresh methi or the seeds (blended), the blended seeds can be added in any dish, mixed in with atta and prantha's. Or you can also make fresh methi sabji with aloo, or fresh methi roti or pranthas!

    Some of my recipes are:

    Morning, after getting up:
    a) Soak half a tea spoolfull of fenugreek (methi) seeds in about 50 ml water overnight. The first thing you do after getting up and brushing your teeth is, drink that water in the morning and eat the soaked seeds.
    b) Have a glass of lukewarm water mixed with half a teaspoon of honey and two piches of ground cinnamon (dalchini).
    c) Drink at least two/three glasses of water afterwards
    d) Have tea and coffee later without sugar.

Breakfast, 8 AM to 9 AM
    a) Breakfast is a must
    b) Have porridge or oat meal. Naturally avoid all sugars.
    c) Have a plate of fruits consisting of Apple (not for heavy diabetics), Papaya, Melons, etc.
    d) Can also have freshly sprouted legumes such as moong
    d) Have a glass of lukewarm water mixed with half a teaspoon of honey and two piches of ground cinnamon (dalchini).

    Around 11 AM
    a) Have a fruit like Apple or Pear
    b) Drink two glasses of water

    Lunch:
    a) Lots of legumes and lentil based cooked vegetables/preparations
    b) Foolkas and not rotis or parathas - max 3 or 4 of 6~8" diameter.
    c) Protein heavy diet and lots of salads
    d) Boiled chicken/fish preparation is good
    e) Less than one teaspoon of oil to be used for cooking.
    f) A small dish of prescribed fruits as desert
    g) 2/3 glasses of water

    Afternoon snacks, 4 PM
    a) Same as mid-day snacks at 11 AM

Dinner, to be finished no later than 8 PM
    a) Similar to lunch but loose a foolka and reduce portions by 1/4th.

    More suggestions welcome.

Edit: Forgot to mention, at least 2 KM of fast (if not brisk) walk in the morning and preferably a smaller walk in the night also.

Thanks Preeti. The above list is not exhaustive. I happen to be informed because diabetes runs in the family.

For diabetes on the heavier side, cut down on all kinds of starch. A little fat is OK and justified.
