Exclamation Monosodium Glutamate/Ajinomoto-The scourge of the planet!

Aginomoto salt or Monosodium Glutamate or MSG originated in Japan (thx farce ) many years back. This Aginomoto is the name of the company who prepared it there.

i did not know that MSG was the same as ajinomoto salt people frequently use in chinese food, specially chowmein... till i researched a bit about this chemical online.

U can see today that MSG can be found in nearly all the eatables outside as well as packaged food n all that junk, not restricted to chinese food at all,

it is harmful to a child's brain the most, it can give you irregular heartbeats (arrythmia, which i had for some time), palpitations, head ache n what not...

Manufacturing companies also have a habit of hiding it in other names like, yeast extract, Hydrolyzed Plant Protein, Sodium Caseinate, Textured Protein, Glutamic Acid, Vegetable Protein Extract... etc.

    Read all about it here.

Personally, i've completely stopped chinese food, and also eat processed food in a very limited quantity now.

There is also some evidence of it being linked to cancer.

Remember the chinese were adding melamine to baby food to fool detectors about the quantity of protein in it??
This is somewhat related to that as it fools you with the amount of good stuff in your food... you can see all these dastardly chemicals arise from there... many babies were even killed in that scam.

You should completely stop its consumption ASAP or limit it at least!

By the way these people who make our food locally won't even know what this salt is and how much should it be used. So its your guess what will be the quantity of MSG in Indian local restaurants.

Btw, this Ajinomoto is barred from usage in ITC Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi... something which i found out through a video on YouTube.

Hope this information helps you in some way.

Thanks indeed for the detailed explanation. And also for the wikipedia links. More people should be aware of this health hazard.

Nice article. Repo for you Starry.

Many people don't know the side-effects of this famous ajinomoto, and many have a large quantity of it in their daily intake of food. Its quite sad that many are not aware of what they are eating.

    My Boy,

Most of the food we are eating (mainly fast foods and from big hotels) from outside our home contain a lot of harmful contents like this.

Margin free supermarkets. I really doubt whether they would stock such products in Big Bazaar.

Most of the fast food items that you eat from outside are harmful to your health, and many big hotels use ajinomoto for adding extra taste to the recipe.
It tastes really great when added to food items.

SK, good information and we need to be careful what we eat.

Just a minor point. Ajinomoto is Japanese not a Chinese company.

Just FYI. In Chinese restaurants I have tried the exact same
dish with and without MSG and I can't tell the difference in
    taste or flavor!

most 2-minute noodles contain MSG. so does many chienese sauces and ready to eat packs. as per govt. regulations they are supposed to declare this on the pack. they do it, in super fine print.
check the fine print before u buy.

An occasional exposure to MSG is not going to harm you. But a daily exposure will.

But this is true of common salt also - especially Low Salt that contains potassium chloride (KCl) in large values. Beware of Cargill products.
