    Default Toasted and Grilled Sandwiches

I have decided to open another thread on grilled and toasted sandwiches, and the reason for this is that some people get confused over these with normal cold sandwiches, and the other main reason is that there is so much more to grilled and toasted sandwiches, that it can all be included in one thread.

You may have another name for it, but to clarify grilled simply means grilling the sandwich and toasted means you can either toast the bread and have a filling or cooking the filling with bread toasting it together in the sandwich toaster.

Everyone has their own ways of having their grilled sandwiches, the way they cook them, prepare them, and many have their own recipes for the fillings, what all fillings have you had and made yourself!

I like being creative and so always make something up, like getting vegetables like green pepper, cabbage, onions, tomatoes, sweet corn, chillies, mixing them together with some salt and pepper. Put this filling between two breads and put it in a sandwich toaster!

The same can be done by adding paneer to this or some cheese and both of these give a different taste!

I prefer grilled sandwitches when the filling is not too watery. Otherwise the inside of the sandwitch becomes soggy.

Yeh that is the case, but sometimes they taste good. I think if you dont add tomatoes it should be ok, or otherwise you can de-seed the tomatoes to make it less watery! Sometimes if you wash the veg just before cutting them, there is water which still remains, you could also wash the veg half and before!

Girlled sandwiches are different in their own way too, they more crunchy and you get equal amounts of the bread as well as the filling!

I like grilled sandwitch but without onions, cold sadwitch is good as a quick meal but the satisfaction comes from hot grilled sandwitch only

Without onions, well it depends on what the other ingredients are! Is it that you dont like onions? Because generally onions taste quite nice, especially in bread!

I used to own an electric Sandwitch maker (got bad now). Now I use the Microwave griller but it does not get the desired results. I have gone back to the simple manual s/w maker (the one which you heat on the gas flame).

    My simple grilled sandwitches menu:

    1. Apply butter on one slice of bread.
    2. Apply Mint/Corriander Chutney on the other slide
    3. On the chutney side place thin slices tomatoes (deseed as Preeti mentioned). Add a layer of thin slices of cucumber.
    4. Sprinkle with pepper, salt and chat powder.
    5. Add grated cheddar cheese, if you like. But cheese does not do well with chat powder.

    6. For some added spice, add 3-4 mint and 3-4 corriander leaves (whole) on top.

    7. Lay the buttered slice on top and put it inside the s/w maker.
    8. Heat on medium flame - 2~3 minutes each side.
    9. Serve with ketchup and enjoy with afternoon tea.

    ... yum ... yum ...

Generally when I am tired after a hard day, I make grilled sandwiches for refreshment using:

Sliced Tomatoes, sliced cucumber, cabbage leaves, capsicum and beetroot. I use butter on 2 slices of bread. I arrange all the veggies nicely onto the slice. If cheese is available, than I grate it and use half a cube (Amul Cheese) per sandwich. I sprinkle some oregano and grill it for about 7-8 minutes.

@J4K: chaat masala may not go well with melted cheese but oregano suits the melted cheese perfect!

You can try the above without grilling but the melted cheese makes this sandwich extra special.

I mix chilly flakes and salt into the oregano to make a near perfect sandwich, pizza, baked dish masala.

I neither stay alone nor love to cook. Infact I hate cooking itself, but I love eating and tasting new things and criticising if the taste is not right. The only thing I know how to make are some sandwiches and Top ramen. For all the other foods I am reliant on other family members.

People have all kind of addictions; chai, coffee, smoking, alcohol, drugs etc...I am kinda addicted to good food.:d

@ mails2sc - melted cheese is always good on bread either if its melted on top of the bread or as a filling.

If you really want to experiment, try and add a small amount of dried garlic and/or ginger powder to oregano. Put that mix masala on to a bread with butter and some grated cheese. Toast the whole thing in an OTG for a few minutes and you will have your Garlic bread. Believe me it works like a charm!
