Thread: PC vs Consoles

Their has been lot of discussions/debate/fights between PC Gamers & Console Gamers, and each and every person has their own reviews and opinions regarding both of them.

So i thought i would write a Article about both of them.

What are Gaming Consoles ?

Gaming Consoles are the machine which are exclusively designed for people to play only for video games.


Gaming Consoles :-

Nowadays if you hear the word Console, the thing that struck your minds are Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 because they are the most famous ones.

The Sony RSX 'Reality Synthesizer' is jointly developed by Sony and Nvidia. With 550 mhz GPU , 256 MB of GDDR3 ram clocked at 700mhz

Basically PS2 graphic cards are based on the current Geforce 7900 GT, however different ones.

Advantages of Consoles :-

They are portable, we can carry them from 1 place to other without much hazzle.

They are cheaper compared to PC

You can play games in big 40" big TV's etc.

People can actually play games through console sitting on couch without any problems.


PC :-



Consoles are basically the part of PC which has been designed only exclusively for Gaming. But PC is a multi tasking system were you can do alot of things other than gaming etc.

The only reason PC are expensive because it supports multi-tasking, Gaming is only a part of PC.


Now the question which one of them is better and why :-

I have made small FAQ section, were i have answered the basic questions related to them.


FAQ :-

Consoles Graphics are equivalent to which graphic card in PC :-

Consoles graphic card are slightly more better than Geforce 7900 GTX.

How come we can play such high graphic games in PS3, but even if we have far more better graphic card in PC, they lags in PC?

The Reason behind this is simple. The PS3 games are specially developed looking at the current configuration of the PS3 and are highly optimized for them.

In PS3, you can't actually turn features like AA ON because it is not such powerful to support such features.

At what visuals most PS3 games run at ?

PS3 and Xbox360 games run at 720p or lower, however for some games it might be higher.

Why Consoles cost less when they can play all games PC can?

The reason behind this is, their games are much more expensive i.e 2x More than the cost of normal PC games.

Review :-

According to me their is no reason for me, why people actually compare PC Gaming Vs Console Gaming because in terms of Graphics Console Games can never outmatch PC games, never whatsoever.

If you take a Geforce 9800 GTX and Console, 9800 GTX will be like thrice faster than PS3, the only reason behind this is, people actually play games with features like AA ON etc which are not supported in Consoles because they know that they are not so powerful to handle them.

The games which are currently on PC are not very good optimized, i mean look at the games in PS3, the newest ones actually works so well in them i mean in graphic card similar in comparison like Geforce 7900 GTX, the only reason behind this is Optimization.

The Consoles games are very efficiently optimized with their current hardware so they work so good, if PC games were so optimized than currently i would have been able to play all the new games at high resolution with some Geforce 8 series card without any lag.


Conclusion :-

The only reason people go for Consoles because they are cheaper, and playing games in it is easy like you don't have to install stuff and no need to worry about errors in PC like directx9 not found etc etc.

PC is far more superior than Consoles, if you take example of ATI 5870 i don't know even if console will have graphic card with such high performance or not.

Verdict :-

PC is the best in Terms of Graphics and Gaming Exprience and will always be.

BTW idk what will happen to PC Gaming Industry if their will be no Nvidia & ATI

This was my article based on PC vs Consoles, hope you guys like it, waiting for your comments on it.

Yes, same here, PC is the best in terms of graphics and no one can beat it ever.

But you have totally missed out on the fact that PS3 is great for general multimedia and its also got bluray. Its size makes it possible to be used in the living room, unlike PCs which would look ugly (without good HTPC case ie).

I feel, consoles are for more or less casual gamers, PC are for more hardcore ones...

PS3=Rs 19K

ATI Radeon HD 5850=Rs 16K

The graphics card wins with less price!
But u are also right that ps3 supports bluray and is good for casual games.

And we are forgetting Xbox. Xbox 360 is also good

I think the most problem is you need to install various kind of softwares etc which newbies might face trouble on and in Consoles you are completely free from them.

If you are console owner, you have no need to worry about the graphic card, processor, RAM, Windows Compatibility, well these things seems easy for us because we know them , but for one's who are not familiar they have alot of trouble in them, so they opt for Consoeles

Also well a Good Gaming PC might Cost around Rs 60k/- well its a one time cost and that PC might play the latest games at high settings for 7-8 years.

Well, we also have Blueray drive on PC and yea it looks good in living room but some Alienware gaming PC looks much hardcore and much more better and BTW with Water Cooling System installed, it will look much more better in night

I vote for a PC . Im not a Gamer anyway .. if even i was then in a PC i can do lots better things than a Console like XBOX or PS3 etc etc... Now a days nice configuration Gaming PCs are coming at cheaper rates as compared to earlier prices..!

Their will always a war in Price rates till war between Intel Vs AMD & Nvidia vs ATI is ON.

But in terms of money, AMD & ATI always wins.

you are right but if u buy a console it will be outdated and no games would be made for it!In PC just upgrade and play!
But if anyone connects his console to Home Theatre then that would be coolest

Well if he opt for a normal 21" monitor, i think he would be able to play all upcoming games in high settings for 10 years i think.

Well not very much you know, AMD has just released 6 core CPU's for only 12k, its amazing,while Intel Core i7 itself costs 16k. I will certainly will go for 6 cores CPU instead of going for Core i7 CPU's, it will also save me around 4k and that matters alot.

yea i am praying he upgrades to 2x 5870 and donates 1 GTX 275 to me i will be like most happiest person in the world if that happens, i have 19" monitor and will able to play all the games at highest settings

You have forgotten one of the best consoles available: the Nintendo Wii.

Yea i know the only reason i did not include that because my main aim was GRAPHICS and wii is for fun not for graphics

Nearly Directx 9 was above 10yrs and more and now just DX10 and 10.1 was just 4years...
Now DX11 came and some games are getting support for DX10 10.1 and 11...
Gtx275 has DX10 and OpenGL 2.1 and Pixel and Shader 3.0...
Now a days an Rs5500 card has Dx11 and OpenGL 3.2 and Pixel and Shader 5.0....

We cant judge that this card can last long for years...
There will be new card coming out every 2months and the high end card will be in the Mid range...

I always Prefer ATI card because they are step above in the Future of gaming..

Directx does will not matter alot. Ik directx11 has just been introduced and now for a couple of years the companies will go on making DX11 compatible games, but those games will also support DX9 and DX10.

GTX 275 is soo powerful card, you can't expect it to drain quickly, even my Geforce 9400 GT i.e low profile card lasted for 2 years, i think even in future, companies will not make companies which needs card like GTX 275 as recommended.

You actually think 2 GTX275s in SLI will allow your friend to play all new games at highest settings for the next 10 years ? I will give him less than 2 and then even midrange cards will be faster than the SLI setup....

some 3 years back, there was a card called 8800GTX ultra, an $800 card, and now, even a $80 4850 is faster....

as j4k said, you missed the interface, many people prefer playing while sitting on their couch rather than on a chair or something...

But i prefer to put sofa in front of my pc and play games with Gamepad

Well, 4850 does not cost 80$, infact 1GB 4850 cost whooping Rs 11000/-

& 4850 is also very fast card.

& agree to the point, many people prefer playing games sitting on the sofa, well for them consoles will be the best (added that point in my article)

$99 on the egg was $80 some time back...

I play Need for Speed - Underground on 110" screen with full stereo sound all relaxed on the sofa-bed.

And that is still when I don't own a PS3 as yet. Can anyone beat that?
