Can u guys put forward the merits & demerits?
Outrageous....
oh for gods sake this is not thailand or something.
If its legalised, then there could be a possibility that more women may be pushed or exploited into the profession.
On the other side,if its legalised...the number of rapes, eve teasing may come down....
both advantagesand dis-advantages

oh ive heard in thailand its legalised..and they advertise it in the magazines n stuff..no not porn magazines , but normal ones.
and the whore houses are like out in the open.
WOoOo ... and if i am not sure playboy was banned in Thailand .... strange people they r ....
@above
yaa man..
I believe prostitution can not be stopped ever... Being the most ancient profession it is...
India has seen it for 62 years after independence... And it goes on and on even being illegal... Whom is it hurting most?
None, other than sex workers... Its sex workers who are suffering most... They don't have any protection from law... Infact law enforcers(Police) are the biggest threat to them... Police-men keep abusing their existence more than anyone else... They don't stop it all together... And they take bribe in kind & cash to keep it running...
There are very few NGOs working for health care of sex workers... And they can't get proper treatment everywhere cuz they are not accepted in mainstream... If it gets legalized they will get medical benefits from the government agencies too... They will be checked for deadly diseases like AIDS from time to time... which will only help our society...
In many countries in Europe... Like Germany... Prostitution is legalized... Sex-workers get license to carry on their job... They get checked for STDs every 6 months... And they file their income-tax return too...
I think it will reduce illegal trafficking of girls too... cuz due to license thing... Everything will come under direct control of Govt....

so ur that saying before independence we dint have any prostitutes around here?
no way...
I don't agree with both of ur points...
Less women will be pushed without consent... I've already explained it in my last post...
Rapes, eve teasing etc. are moral issues... legalization of prostitution won't help... People need to be educated against such things... And laws should be enforced strictly to punish the culprit....
I'm not saying that... I said that prostitution is the thing of old times... And it can't be stopped...
I don't know what laws brits made followed us... Thats y i'm considering only about the existing laws... laws which are in place since our independence...

I think you can legalize prostitution with good results. I am from America and in the state of Nevada there are a few counties where it has been legalized and is heavily regulated. The government can tax the earnings and you can put health standards on it to keep it safe (as safe as possible) and clean for the residents.
I dont think India [with all its internal bureaucratic corruption ] can maintain such strict regulations . Before you know it ll become a haven for Trafficking gangs ... In India anything including licenses can be got thru bribes or political power ...Def innocent girls will be forced into the trade [i.e owning brothels]....and all the people in power will get into this business once it is legalized [due to greed]
Conceptually it is ok, but as a practical matter in India it is
going to be chaos if implemented.
I recommend 4 caveats if implemented
- extensive health regulations
- full public disclosure, what I mean is no secrecy, if you visit everyone knows.
-pimps and anyone forcing anyone else into it should get the death penalty.
-they should be govt employees

Everyone...... can i call LOL now
lets say LOL
There will be still problems
Full public disclosure would mean that most people wont visit them for fear of being humiliated ...... Sex in India is still a 'hush hush' matter .... They r not so open like in say the U.S .... So public diclosure is completely out of question for them .
India has still not amended its rules for crimes like rapes against women ...and the little rules that r there are never followed most of the time ...So new rules will be very difficult to implement
Government backed companies [Public sector companies] are among the worst in India .
We have a thread for BSNL- a govt owned Internet company ... check its threads ..you ll get an idea
;-) maybe on 2 and 4.
but I am serious on #1. Aids is a real problem among them.
#3 - maybe I went overboard. I'll settle for 10 years jail for pimps.

You are right public disclosure wont work out.
The reason I mentioned Govt was bacause if this becomes a private
enterprise it would be totally run by the bad guys and mafia like companies.

Unfortunately in India politicians are equally corrupt.....
few years ago i read an article in the news....
An Engineer blew the whistle on a scam going on ......
the govt had higher ed a company to build a highway ...but it was late on schedule ... The Engineer found that a fat part of the funding was being re- directed by some corrupt politicians involved in validating that project ...After he blew the whistle he was found shot dead ...even though he asked that his name be kept secret to the investigating agency ......
So no promise of securities even if the govt takes it up![]()
So wen we talk bout in a government employee level are we sayin that the dudes and dudettes involved in the business get pension after retirement?
hehehe
