Top 10 Internet Service Providers

TRAI, which is doing a good job but with little bit of inertness has published the Internet and Broadband subscriber numbers.

At the end of June-2008, India had 11,160,000 million Dial-Up Internet subscribers and 4.38 million Broadband subscribers.

The Top 10 Broadband service providers in India are as follows.

• BSNL - 2.32 mn subscribers and 53.15% market share.
  
• MTNL - 0.59 mn subscribers and 13.56% market share. MTNL operates only in the lucrative circles of Delhi NCR and Mumbai.
  
• Bharti Airtel - 0.58 mn subscribers with 13.25% market share.
  
• Hathway Cable - 204K subscribers.
  
• Tata Communications - pathetic 193K subscribers [Tata Indicom + Tata WiMax]
  
• You Telecom - 146K subscribers.
  
• Reliance Communications - 85K subs.
  
• Sify Broadband - 64K subs.
  
• Asianet Communications - 43K subs.
  
• HFCL Infotel - 19K.

That is pretty slow growth considering broadband was at 3.13 million subscribers at the end of December 2007

I doubt that. Way back in July, 2007, I checked with Airtel for BB. That time they said that they do not have my area covered but they are expanding rapidly.

A month ago, when I was suffering, I checked with them again. Same reply.

My residence area in Pune is the main hub of commercial retail activity and Airtel has no presence still.

Even I enquired Airtel in April 2007 asking for broadband connection.
They said they will laying out the cables in my area in next 3 months.
Then I took BSNL broadband in May 2007.
Two weeks back I again enquired Airtel regarding the connection.
They are still laying out the cable it seems....

^^ Same here. I had also asked them 6 months ago and today also they are giving the same reply.

And the problem with most ISPs in India is that their so-called customer care has 0 technical knowledge.

It means Airtel ho ya BSNL, India mein sab chalta hai
