Unhappy Jet Air sacks 850 employees, to sack 1000 more

Jet Airways has given the pink slip to around 800 employees. They have planned to sack more (around 1000 employees). The 850 employees were mostly cabin crew staff, young, were recruited recently & were on probation period.

The sacked people were not given any compensation.Few of them not even given the termination letter, they were justt informed though phone. Is this way, right ?

Those given pink slips approached Shiv Sena & MNS. MNS have threated Jet airways that if they dont take back the sacked employees they they (MNS) wont allow the JET flights to take off & land.

We all know that the Indian Aviation Industry is going through a very bad face. During the financial year 2007-08, the aviation industry incurred a $2 Billion loss.

Future of the sacked yougesters is "?" now.....

Looking forward to ur comments on this...

It was a very regretable step but what is deploring is the manner of implementation.

In India, we are not used to getting pink slips just like that. When I was in USA, I used to see this all the time. One a bunch of 3 ladies went (outside) for lunch. By the time they returned their access cards had stopped working. Upon inquiry they were informed that their services were no longer required.

This kind of behaviour is unknown and unacceptable in India. This will cause a tremendous dent on the self-confidence of the individual. The fired people will say - "I am being fired but the CEO is still sitting on his chair earning the fat salary". One fired employee was saying on TV, "When they joined, Jet told them that they are a family. When a family is in economic trouble, do we chuck away family members?".

    In my opinion:

    - they should have seen this coming
    - they should not have hired indiscrimenately
    - they could have reduced salaries across the board
    - finally if firing was inevitable, proper severance procedure should have been worked out

But Indians better be prepared for "Hire and Fire" - this is market driven economy.

That's right J4X. I am tracking this news since long and i see a layoff (may be wrongly termed as Retrenchment / sacking) cuming soon in my company too. But what is the alternative. Who takes care of bloody Political involvement and media ?

No company had foreseen such a downtrend and loss of capital ... in fact Jet was on a progress stage. Reducing Salaries do not work, as it also creates lot of chaos... Ultimately there's no other way to adopt this in our country which has seen the Layoff's from its earliest times.

The Main Issue is that.... we should see the Unionism cuming back !!! Its scary !!!

Next its Air India who have decided to give 3-5 years leave without pay to about 15,000 of its staff.

According to this, the employees those who take up the offer to go on leave would be taken back if they desire so at the same seniority and last drawn pay.

Jet says sorry, takes back all sacked staff

Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal late Thursday night announced the reinstatement of all 1,900 sacked employees and asked them to return to work on Friday morning.

This is what Naresh Goyal said "I am mentally disturbed with all this and I will not be able to live (like this) as long as I live my life." Calling it the most emotional day of his life he said, "My daughter is 19 years old. They (the sacked employees) are 20 or so. I cannot see their trauma and agony"

I am really very happy for the people who have got back their jobs....
    Its party time for them..........

    Finally, the good sense prevailed.

I am not happy with central govt's action or rather inaction in this matter. They can not be mute spectator.Kapil Sibaal has reportedly said that it is a internal matter of the company.
