Thread: Why the price difference??

hey all,

i've decided to go in for a sony xplod CDX-GT470U cd receiver for my car.... now the sony website lists its price to be INR7990... and when i check out any website like ebay or indiatimes shopping; they are all offering the product at much less, on ebay its available at INR5300 brand new!!

Why is this huge price difference?? Is it ok to go in for buying it off ebay? It will definitely be easy on my pocket...

Why not try local dealers? You might get a similiar price as that on ebay.
Though if you are comfortable with buying on ebay thats fine too

eBay is very reliable site for online shopping.
Look for the feedback of the seller & also make sure the seller is a Power Seller...

They has a system called PaisaPay which makes cheating hard. Also seller ratings can guide you. Here is how PaisaPay works:

- You place an order over eBay merchant
- The Paisapay collects from you via CC / Paypal /ICICI account
- System instructs seller to confirm that payment has been collected and shipping can happen
- Seller ships item
- Item is received by purchaser
- Purchaser has 10 days to report that order was not received or goods were faulty. Faulty goods must be returned at purchaser's shipping cost (I think).
- If purchaser confirms receipt of goods or more than 10 days are past, seller is paid by PaisaPay
- In case of disputes, Paisapay usually returns the money in favour of the party that wins the dispute. PaisaPay system is the sole arbitrator.

Also someone I know bought the model you mentioned for around 6700/- with warranty.

Without warranty it might be available at a cheaper price

I checked round here, its available for 7500 bucks... the seller is a very nice guy with business ethics (this is a story connected to this )...ya he is a power seller.

I don't see the product being fake or anything cause how on earth wud the locals manage to pull off its functions? and if it turns out to be such i will just demand a refund, ebay also has a buyer protection policy for transactions other than Paisapay too...

I just saw the blaupunkt london mp37 from the same seller, and it has blown me away! but the sad part it doesn't have a usb drive port ...The bottom line- I HATE BUYING STUFF.

Can u all plz recommend what to get and what not to?

No i've decided, will go with the sony one only, usb greatly increases functionality.... final decision.

So can any1 tell me where do these models come from in the market without manufacturer warranty?? all i will have is a 3 months seller warranty...

@lovelyme what model do u have and was it with manufacturer warranty or not? what issues are u having with the set, can u plz elaborate a bit?

I do not really remember the model exactly right now but got it for 12400/- 8 months back. Its with USB and AUX in the front.

I also use pioneer (no usb feature).

Somehow i feel that the sound quality and output (with various DSO feature) is not upto mark as its is in Pioneer. I always find myself setting up the equaliser in Sony. I got it from the Distributor itself, leave aside the Power Dealer. I got the Speakers changed once but not satisfied.

Where as the Pioneer i have is much older (over 3 years) and beleive me its terrific. but yes no option of USB.

I wud sincerely suggest to try the sound systems already existing in car... i mean - do not rely on what you hear in the showrooms / dealers place. If you can, listen to someone who already has the ones fixed....

Thx for the info lovelyme, u know all i want is sound clarity, m not much of a bass or treble freak, i always listen to songs on my computer and music system with the eq off. i believe if u got the right set of speakers and amplifier, thats all u need (my comp has JBL speakers and my music system is JVC).

i listened to xplod systems on youtube, ya the sound can't b analysed by me with the quality that is aired at the site, but the people were quite satisfied with the sound...
i can't really go for anything >5-6k right now, and its got usb too so i zeroed in on the model..

the one thing i'm afraid of is the origin of these sets that are available without manufacturer warr...

But i really got the speakers changed pretty fast. No questions asked..!!

May be the sound system is good but there's a problem with speakers... all i know is that sony is not a real master in speakers..
are you apting for additional woofer ??

yup probably will go in for an additional amp and subwoofers (thats y can't spend more on the head unit )... ya u r probably right there, i haven't really got a chance to get a feel of their speakers, will surely test them out before buying tho....or will go in for JBL

just called the seller up to see what he says bout the origin of the sets, he told that the sets are 'imported'... hmm...

and the latest update the same set is available for 4600 with 6months warranty , checked at another seller in dwarka... thats nearly 1k difference (on ebay it was 5300+200 shipping)...

its perfect if u r going for an amp and sw...
these dealers even exchange sets (old to new) if in case u have any to give away...
