People come across different sites in different ways, and sometimes people come across sites in interesting ways.

Lets see how everyone came across India Broadband, and if they came to the site searching for something, what was it that they searched for (as in a particular word or company e.g India Broadband) which landed them on www.indiabroadband.net

I came across the forum, as i searched for india broadband in Google!

Ditto for me. I came across one other site as well but I felt that IBB provided better content.

from mobile, looking for reviews on c2100, but i got real stuff here
that time , superprash,player,kix were the popular ones

Came up in google , when i searched for connection problems in bsnl dataone.

From Google, looking for help on BSNL broadband...
I registered here because one guest had some page viewing limit....
So, I had to register to view the pages here.
That was on July 31st.
Then, I was away from here for a long time.......
I now feel sorry for that....
Came back just the 1st of this December....

I came here searching for someone, but have not obtained any positive confirmation yet, so am still searching (not here any longer though).

However, I liked the comparatively small community of active members who are above average in technical matters (or my perception needs updating about the average technical capability), but since that was not the object of my initial landing here, I do not know how long I am going to be around...for the moment though, I visit the forum regularly.

Off-topic (not interested in starting a thread):
It seems to me that this forum is not hosted in India, also, the forum is using a paid software, I do not understand its business model fully given that it has been decided to also give away prizes to members; many of the active members of the forum do not appear to be resident in India at the moment, most of the active members appear to have some sort of connection outside India, appear to be from atleast the upper middle class (and probably rich) families when such members are actually residing in India. Many active members appear to have lifestyles which indicate that either they are students, call-centre employees, or live outside India.

And there are more inactive members than active ones...I do not know why but I, for one, find the range of topics not very wide (maybe that's why). Or, maybe I am wrong - it just needs time to grow.

When I join this forum that time I was facing speed problem during night and find this forum that's the beginning after that I don't know when i attach with this forum

Interesting offtopic observations.

1. This forum is hosted in USA. I believe the hosting services are provided by Host Gator but Admin could confirm that. The reason is simple. No one in India provides cheap, reliable and fast hosting for private use.

2. All the regular members are above average and share the genuine feeling to help others. 90% of the regular members are from India. Amongst all members, more than 80% would be from India. This site is dedicated to the discussion of Indian BB/Mobile Telephony/TV providers, and hence it would be not of much interest to the people outside India.

3. The business model - I will not comment on this. It is up to Admin to discuss it.

4. In India, only the middle class and above, plus those connected with the IT profession, can afford/need a PC and BB connection. So this perception is correct. But none of us are obscenely rich - if they are, they are quite humble about it.

5. Most members are connected with IT in some way.

6. There are more inactive members than active ones - that is true. I believe that the reason are many:

• Many people login just to read the answers to issues. They do not ask questions themselves. They may quite be satified with the answers provided.
• I too visit many forums for answers but I never register there or pose questions.
  It is generally found that on most forums the ratio of inactive to active members is 90:10.
• We are dedicated to talk about BB related issues in India. We do have other sections but that is not our focus/core area.
• The BB penetration in private homes in India is quite low and hence the members are expected to be limited.

I was searching on google for my connection drop problem... Then I found this forum... I started browsing and found other unique things about BSNL... Such as disconnect/reconnect around 2am so that BSNL doesn't charge my downloads... And how to secure my wi-fi(thanks to J4X articles)... Finally, whitestar solved my problem of connection drop too...

I spent some more time to gain loads of knowledge about modem/router settings and some other geeky things... But I give credit to Admin who started the thread "Females on the forum"... That was the turning point... It gave birth to the idea of "The Lounge"... Where I spent lot of time interacting with regular members here... I was watching a community grow... People started sharing their general life problems & opinions... And I'm happy that I'm part of that community now!

@smnesmwhr: its not necessary that all the members are from upper class families, i think it is quite a mixed variety of people, yes like J4K said its for those who are interested in the IT sector of things (and now other topics too) and also for those who have a internet connection!

Because its India Broadband majority of the people from the forum are from India, I actually don't think that anyone is actually from outside India!

I don't understand why you want to know about business model, i think thats only for Admin to know and understand! If hes giving the prizes, its his wish, if he has the extra money its up to him to give it away!
Maybe hes not thinking of this forum as a business! (you seem too concerned)

I had some probs with my bsnl connection and while searching for similar cases, found this forum through google. Then I had some Socio-political discussions with maddy and then became regular ultimately.

In fact it was never my intention to continue participating in this forum, for I am usually shy to express myself, and so I developed a habit of strict anonymity over net.

Then leo added me added me as a fren , and prob after that oly i was i a lil more regular i guess.

This's probably the oly forum where i'm active.

There could be other reasons why people (members) don't become active:

• They do not have time
• They do know how to participate or that they can indeed participate
• I believe that forum allows limited viewing after which it asks to register. So they register, get their answers and leave it at that.
• I believe that to download attachments, it is necessary to register.
• They feel that they have nothing to contribute

Anyway, we are getting way off topic.

smnesmwhr i am sorry to say but trust me you really need not to worry about the business model of this forum thats admin's work and let him do that, you are a member here so please stick to your role only. I am Moderator of this forum but never tried to poke into any such matter, just4kix is first Moderator of this forum and see even he never tried to discuss any such facts, please check what preeti said, everyone comes here to spread knowledge and not to check any such facts like what admin is earning and why he is giving gifts to members or winners of contest.
Its all admin's wish and he is free to do such things for members of his forum.

As far as i know Indian isp are not very reliable and hence Indian Hosting sites too are not very reliable [Unreliable Internet connecting+ Unreliable Electricity = Hosting Disaster].... Does it matter where IBF is hosted ?

I do not understand its business model
This forum needs a lot of work [in terms of maintanance and upkeep] ... i am sure Admin has spent a lot of time keeping this forum going single handedly and so he has the right to earn as much as he can . You should also take into account that after registration you dont get Advertisements ... so he has been quiet selfless in that aspect .
A forum like this is subjected to many hack attacks , it really needs some maintanance work to keep it going !

There are a lot of students/Bpo employees as well as other people

And there are more inactive members than active ones...
If you visit other forums you ll notice the same case .... It has nothing to do with how this forum is maintained
EX: ThinkDigit Forum , Broadband.in forum etc

well i met MADZ online aftr almost 3-5 years.....he sumhow convinced me to join this forum or rather take a look....!!! i wasnt keen on this thing as i ve soo many things arnd me....n i told him i cant b a regular n all.....but i jus got registered due to him....n here i m....yes i am a bit irregular or can say vanished arnd weekends....n after 7 pm....usually on weekends........!!!!

the time i joined....there were only few ppl active like Admin, J4X & player........but now.........this place has seriously grown

I came here through google...but I was not searching the solution of some broadband/desktop problem...i was looking for some good site to hang on with as most of the major entertaining sites were blocked due to office policies...then one day I found IBB. and I am glad I found it
