Thread: Safety of Girls in India

The safety of girls in India is zero, although some people can say that their city is safe, but thinking of it no place is safe for a girl on her own.
The kidnappings, rapes during broad daylight, and for those girls who travel, work during the night its even worse for them!

Its easy to say that girls are equal to boys, but when it comes to incidents like this it becomes difficult and the girl is the victim and is low in strength to fight for her self, especially when there is more than one man!

What can be done for the safety of girls in India, and how can the men who tease the girls or rape them be taught a lesson or even be caught!

First of all we need to have tougher laws & especially for crimes like rapes, like they have in Saudi Arabia & other Gulf countires.

Yes i suppose the laws would make a big difference, but this is something which wont be done so easily, so there is something which need to think which the people can do themselves, apart from involving the law.

Maybe girls should take up self defense classes, which will boost their confidence and protect them when on their own!

Keep pepper spray with you at all times... Hopefully this jungle raj will come to an end soon and police presense will increase in India.
Right now you would hardly find any educated police staff on the roads... most of them behave like they are some kind of dons..

Indian police is just sitting there to take bribes and haftas from people in their areas...

Out of every place Ive ever been to UP police is the worst in India... You would not find them in full uniform most of the times and they think they run the place.
UP police needs to be brought back to senses.

Temporary method
Our judiciary system supposed to change and police need to more pro-active to stop the crime but one think i just try to mention if rape and murder punishment is same(death Penalty) then lot of person believe that most of the victim will be murder after the rape because punishment is same so criminal knows that no further extra punishment can be possible so he will always try to finish the witness(victim is the main witness)

Although I believe punishment is not a permanent solution but still police need to more pro-active in the city and villages to stop the crime over women.
Permanent method
I still believe crime is the reflection of society.Our society is still not literate enough. Middle age shadow is still present in our society that's why women freedom is a allegorical story in India if we look entire country (don't think as individual just check the few survey) still women are humiliated in male dominant society so at first we have to develop our society and also need to reduce the difference in life style between village and cities in India but this is not the only thing we have to campaign in society for women dignity besides formal education and many more things the effect of this process will slow but permanent at least at some point of time we can reduce the crime.Otherwise we can build law like 498-A but very few women will get benefit from this law and most of the victim still in the same stage also few misuse can be possible (which is happening now)

yes i agree to some extent wid shadow...!

apart from that one state which is safe is gujarat.....n specially ahmedabad....!!! one of the major reasons for it is its a prohibited state due to which ppl even when they drink dont create situations as thy ll b in a prob...!!! i ve stayed here n this city is safe compared to all other places in India.....girls can roam arnd or go nywhr at mid nite on 2 wheelers.....

i stay in the outskirts of the city n i m usually out till 00:00 or 1 am @ nite....no harms...!!! there r cases i dont deny that but its much lower than other states in India....

Officially Tamil Nadu is the safest place in india because it has the highest number of Police personnel ..... The police vs civilian ratio is highest in TN

Imo And the police are nt too corrupt either [speaking relative to other states] ...

Like for example
Whenever i get pulled over for speeding [NFS style ] they [police] make a point to tell me under what section they are charging me the fine (Like i give a damn about it when i am n a hurry) .
Anyways I have never heard of it being done anywhere else in India .

And hey did you know that TN police are the only ones with State Cruisers [albeit in small nos] in india

Yes what you say that's a valid point and practical also that's why i am telling that society has to change it's fact that after such humiliation no one can find mental energy but that the area where we have to support them not only from judicial point of view but also from social angle.(still few person blame the girls)
