Let me clear some basic definitions which may be useful for a newbie

Animes: cartoons whose origin is Japanese or simply japanese animation!

Cartoons: which are made in US or any other country except japan ofcourse

I myself a BIG fan of animes and have somewhat a good collection too, i will list down my collection

ah, a kindred spirit!

well, player, i'm not a BIG fan of anime, but i do heavily appreciate some of the well-made and popular series/movies of the genre.

therefore, anime I have known and loved: (i really encourage people to google/wikipedia these as they are great works of art)

1) The Animatrix (movie) - background, animated short stories that acted as a supplement to the Matrix movies. amazing animation that was done by some of the big guys in Japan!
(I've mentioned this movie in at least 1 other thread)

2) Cowboy Bebop (series+movie) - a college roommate of mine was a big fan of this series and had all the (english-dubbed) episodes on DVD. awesome story lines and fighting in these ones, with protagonists that have a freelancing, devil-may-care attitude.

3) Paprika (movie) - happened to learn about this movie while browsing torrents. supposedly one of the most cutting edge anime films (not to mention stories) out there! the story IIRC is about a device, invented by some neuroscientists, that blurs the lines between dreams and reality for people. as you can imagine, some of the animated dream sequences are out of this world!

4) Initial D (series+movie) - although I've only seen like 1 episode of this series, I loved it since it has to do with modded cars and racing!

5) Aeon Flux (series) - I actually used to have the entire series, but only watched a few of them before losing the hard drive. One of the few series before Lara Croft that features a scantily clad chick kickin' butt!

6) Final Fantasy (movie) - not an anime, per se, but an awesome animated movie nonetheless! my favorite scene is when the soldiers are trying to escape in the car from the giant evil glowing organism...looks great on a big screen!

I don't watch anime at all but I've heard Bleach is pretty good.

Yeah i downloaded some hentai but they all sucks BIG time, but now you will say then why you downloaded it, i downloaded it just for the sake of the website in which i am a team member+ an encoder/uploader too
so was just thinking that if i include hentai into the database then there will be more traffic, you know why there will be more traffic because just mention the word something related to porn/sex the whole world dives into it blindly

I don't get why people watch Hentai, they could just watch some REAL porn instead

lol...the Japs (obviously) are big into Hentai for some reason...

No, sorry i havent seen them yet but i've a heard a lot about this Cowboy Bebop will try to catch this series and btw this very same question applies to you also have you watched the series which i mentioned??

i've seen quite a few of the series' episodes that you've mentioned...my college roommates and other friends were big dragonball-Z and ghost in the shell fans.

although i agree it's groundbreaking, i don't like DBZ too much . I did like the storylines and animation of Ghost in the Shell SAC though...really cool!

by the way, the anime world is indeed very small...check out this tidbit from the ghost in the shell wikipedia article:

"The Wachowski brothers, makers of the Matrix trilogy, have commented on the influence of Ghost in the Shell in an interview.
