My suggestions to improve the contest

The earlier article writing contest was really good. But it had few flaws. There were many articles which were damm good but couldn’t win. The reason they didn’t get enough views & replies.

Even the on going contest “Highest Poster Contest” is good, but there was too much spamming. It was really difficult to find out a good/genuine thread.

What if we combine the above two contest & some have strict rules in order to have a very good & healthy contest. Here’s my suggestion/idea…

In order to quality for the contest, everyone must write in article of at least 300 words.

We can have a point system like below:
New post: 1 point
New thread: 2 points
Spam post: -1 point
Spam thread: -2 points
Each reputations point received: 4 points

The top 10 members getting the most points should be awarded with the following prize money
(Note: The prize amount may vary, as it is to be decided by Admin.)

1) Rs 5000
2) Rs 4000
3) Rs 3000
4) Rs 2000
5) Rs 1000
6) Rs 900
7) Rs 800
8) Rs 700
9) Rs 600
10)Rs 500

Apart from that the best article should be given the prize money of Rs 1000. The best article will be judged by ADMIN & the MODs…I don’t support the idea of judging an article by the no. of views & replies. There were many good, nice, quality article which failed to win just because those articles didn’t get enough replies.

If you guy have any more idea for judging the best article,kindly post.

Rules:

For Article requirements:

1) Articles should not be copied from anywhere and should be original and written by you.
(Any copied article will be disqualified)

2) Articles should be related to the theme of our forum.

3) Minimum of 300 words.

4) The articles should make sense.

5) Check for spelling & grammatical errors.

6) All other forum rules also apply.

For Posts:

1) Do not make irrelevant posts.

2) Do not post stupid stuff like just a smiley and 2-3 word posts.

3) Do not copy & paste stuff from other.

4) You may copy paste stuff for reference purposes only as long as you are also making an addition to whatever you are posting.

There must be few rules for disqualifying,I would like to have all your ideas & suggestion on the rules for disqualifying.

good suggestion....bt i think the point system would make it verydifficult to decide as calculating them won't be easy

also, we will not be be able to know that wat is our position in the contest.....

I think the task of calculating points is easy than the task of deleting spam posts.May be Iam wrong...Adminjii/Modji...kindly throw some light on this..

Great suggestion rameshjee, i like your idea of adding points for posts and negative marking for spam posts/threads. you deserve repo for this

I agree with your points and in last few days we got lot many threads where word count is not exceeding 20-25 so all those threads are not included in the contest. People who came here just to spam are not here on regular basis and we (admin n mod's) are already deleting all the baseless posts and threads, admin is busy in making changes with the stats page and i am deleting all the spam posts.

A simple Request from all of you, if you find any spam post/thread where users are chatting just for fun in tech topics or if you find pure baseless spam then please use the report post button to report such posts coz i don't think that we need to wait for complete one month to delete spam from forum.

For posts, you forgot to add a rule concerning bumping of old threads.
I admit I have been guilty of doing that with some threads on the first day of the competition.My apologies for the inconvenience caused.

i think general offtopic discussions should be excluded frm this contest

yes admin has taken care of stats page but still he is making some more changes with it.

Its just 3-4 days gone so far in this new contest and more than 25 day still left in it, and you are talking about "new contest"..

It dosnt look good.. either you should have raised your suggestions before the start of this contest or you should have waited for its completion.

I dont think this thread is required at this time... it will only spoil the spirit of current contest...

It would be better to say that it would spoil the spirit of spamming. This will only add to the spirit of the genuine posters.

As far as spamming is concerned moderators can delete the spam posts.. or we can discuss about some more options to deal with it..

But the first post of this thread is not discussing about "corrections" in this contest.. but it is for a yet "new contest"..

So "it can add to the spirit of the genuine posters" but for the next contest..

I don't think this thread spoils the spirit of the current contest. I am sure it would hurt the spammers a lot. If it was to spoil the spirit,then Admin/MODs would have deleted this thread right away.

i think there should be complete uniformity.there still are lots and lots of one-liners and one-word replies.i hope it is being looked into.

Well spammers are like political leaders.. they never get hurt..

You yourself have a reputation like a mod here.. so it would not be an easy job for Admin/MODs to delet a thread started by you...

It is just a matter of common sense that.. if admin have started the contest after a good deal of Advt abt it.. then he shall not be able to stop it before its scheduled end date.. and since it can't be stopped at this time.. it is useless to talk/think beyond it..

i agree .. i don't think the suggestions he made in any sense spoils the spirit of the contest ... and while posting on the forum one should always think of himself as a member of this community and not as a contestant ... he came up with some very good ideas some of which are difficult to implement in a forum ... but his suggestions really deserve some reps ...

ur point is also valid .. once this contest has been started it wont make sense to implement new rules and posting constraints ... i am sure if the spammers see all this discussion the spamming will automatically slow down as they will start thinking - "jis contest ke liye itna time de rahe hain - pata nahi usme mujhe consider karenge bhi ya nahi "

^most probably new rules will not be implemented in this contest ...... According to Admin this first contest is just a feeler ....

After this depending on the experience gained rules will be stricter

Yes. I think Ramesh had already mentioned that in his starting post. This thread is meant for taking advices and suggestions for the next contest.

i never expected that this contest would be a cause of so many tensions in the forum.....

The spamming have reduced now as a result of banning few of the spammers.
Its the result of some overtime work of Adminjii & MODjiii...

Do you have any ideas to improve the contest & to stop the spamming thing...

300 words each thread is the best medicine

But the spamming is now also going on in a minor scale, with some added tricks from the spammers.

Very nice suggestions Jee. I hope they are implemented.

I have a suggestion on deciding the contest prize amount...The prize amount can be equal the number of posts you make...So more number of posts,the more is your prize money.So top 10 posters can be declared as winners.

No of posts = Prize money amount
