actually I wanted to write pices but due to typo the "c" was missed.
My father is from the time anna was the main commercial unit.
He gave me some pice, anna & rupee from that era (incl. some from the British era) and some naya paisas too.
Since 1964, the following coins have come into circulation,
1p, 2p, 3p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 25p, 50p
till very recently, the govt. used to mint new 10p, 25p & 50p coins and till date, they remain in circulation, at least in Kolkata.
If I am not wrong, after independence, initially the value anna was changed to 6 paise. That would mean 1 Rupee = 96 paise

i think all of our father have seen those aanas nd few of them still have those coins or paper issues........
i'm a currency collector thats why i'm sharing such info........
well just to show i hav these ones......
i have more also but wont have much time to search for their links or to take their pics........
if i'm not wrong, the 1p was the only rectangular coin of independent India's new currency.

i still have quite a few of them in my hometown. and I was told its tama (copper), they even are very good conductor of electricity (in my school days used one as a switch for my science project running on batteries)
and about the seccond query of urs, was I right about the 96 paise (1 anna = 6 paise) bit?
just remembered something told by my granny in my childhood.
don't know if its posted anywhere. (generally our grand parent sort of people don't use the net afterall)
so where u from.............if u r from Jaipur or Delhi...beer is just few steps away from u.........nd if u r from other state than just forget it i hav mentioned it before also.........but it can be possible if u r coming to those cities........
