Hello All,

In the interest of all we have decided to make the current posting contest more interesting, interactive, balanced and especially extra rewarding.

Here is the new rule addition that will stop all spams from getting counted as posts in the contest.

Articles and thread in the sections, General offtopic discussions, Buy, Sell or Trade, Online Jobs, and Entertainment and Recreation will not be considered for contest.

We will not delete posts this time but simply move the "spam" threads to one of these sections. We will also create a new thread call "Junk" thread in the Offtopic section and move the irrelevant posts to this thread. Or we may use the "The Crappiest Thread of the Forum" for the purpose.

As you know that the current contest will award certain moneys for highest posters - Rs. 5000/- for the 1st, and so on.

Here comes the spicy part.

Those contestents who rank in top 15 for posts are going to get prizes as usual and described on the forum earlier. But those who have at least 8% new threads will get another 50% added to their prize money.

For example if the first prize winner who has already won Rs. 5000 has 1000 posts in total and if he has 8% i.e. at least 80 new threads, the person will get an extra Rs. 2500. This will be applicable to all others as well till 15th rank.

But let me put down the rules clearly for the bonus amount:

a) At least 8% new threads
b) Such new threads must have at least 75 words
c) News and articles copy pasted from other web sites will not be considered.
d) Articles in excluded sections as stated above will not count.

Edit:

After having a chat with Admin, the bonus qualification for "Highest Poster Contest" has been reduced to 8% (from 15%).

So if your new post count is 8% of your total posts for the period (Jan 20 to Feb 19), you will get 50% of your money won as an additional bonus.

Great idea about bonus for active thread-starters(15%)!

But I was more happy... without jokes section only... anyway hope this makes the contest better!

Plz clear these doubts in detail:

1) will the threads already created after 20th january till now be counted ?

2) is there any limit on the number of threads one can create?

3) threads which contain some copy-paste stuff as reference along with source links and of course some original content from the thread starter count?

for ex: will these threads count?

a) http://www.indiabroadband.net/news-t...n-digital.html (2 Terabyte HDD from Western Digital)

b) http://www.indiabroadband.net/softwa...new-level.html (Google G-Drive - Taking cloud computing to a new level)

c) http://www.indiabroadband.net/nokia/...ming-soon.html (New Nokia Phones Coming soon)

4) will the stats page display the post counts excluding the topics you specified? if not, then how will we be able to keep count of our valid posts for the contest?

a few suggestions:

1) Threads which have less than 75 words but are self descriptive in whatever content is on the first post and attracts replies and interaction from many users should be counted. ex:

a) http://www.indiabroadband.net/nokia/...parisions.html (Nokia mobile camera snaps & comparisions)

b) http://www.indiabroadband.net/laptop...ptop-pics.html (post ur laptop pics - :))

c) http://www.indiabroadband.net/tata-s...y-package.html (channels which needs to be added in tata sky package)

2) 15% is a bit unrealistic for top posters coz according to my assumptions by the end of the contest the top 4-5 poster will reach around a mark of 2500-3000 posts. creating 375-450 threads for a single person over a period of 21 days is asking for far too much. in that case the top 4-5 posters will practically not at all be eligible for this new spice you added.

3) There are some very good articles and threads in the general offtopic discussions section - like the ones from Rameshjee. Those threads should get a chance to be considered for the contest.

plz consider my suggestions seriously and plz clarify my doubts

Rules apply to all threads/posted after 20-Jan. A member can create as many new threads as desired but 75 word limit applies for the competition.

Copy/pasted article are not ruled out completely. Just that there should a limit to such articles - say not more than 1% of the total new threads. This is not a rule but a suggestion at this point and only for the competition purposes.

All your artciles (links you provided) may be counted but if someone posts too many such articles, we will move them in offtopic and back to proper section after competition ends.

15% is a target for additional bonus. The idea of the competition is bring quality and not quantity to the forum. To qualify for the bonus, the poster must have 15% articles as new threads. So if the poster has a total posts of 1000, 150 of them must be new thread. So the distribution is 850 replies and 150 new threads.

It is not difficult to think of new threads and new topics.

3) ok , dont count these threads but plz dont move relevant threads under a section to yard. like - laptop pics section deserves to stay under the laptops section

It was really good to provide bonus for new threads. But, as saurav has already said here, 15% will not be most probably reached by most of the top posters. It would have been better if it had a lower value.

If people start posting new threads from now on some benefits will occur:

- Their post count will increase as usual because new posts also count in total posts
- 75 word limit will bring in quality
- added incentive to win extra bucks
- reduction of repetative (and junk) posts (we have seen a reduction already)
- people will stop reporting offtopic threads

it could have been like this:

top thread starters among the tops posters. this really would have encouraged the top posters to create more and more threads. i understand the need for new threads on the forum. as more and more quality threads will be created on different topics the forum will become more versatile - more people searching google on various topics will be directed here. but the current 15% rule is not something which i am not gonna strive for. this rule is not at all inspiring me to create many new threads at least for the contest purpose. i think it wont be possible to create so many threads(15%) by he end of the contest - i will continue to post as usual and create occasional new threads as i have been doing till now.

As stated before, the rules of the original competition have not changed that much -we just exluded some non-releavent sections.

What has been added is an extra incentive in terms of new threads.

ya i understand this. what i was trying to say in my previous post was - the extra incentive for creating new threads must be for some good purpose and if i am not wrong i already mentioned it in the above post. but the unrealistic target of 15% new threads is not really inspiring me ( at least me - cant say about others) to go for it. anyways lets see how things go for the next few days.

O man that was really a nice idea but as like saurav and dhaneshv already said it was very hard for the top poster to make their thread count to 15% of all his posts........this was hard also because that rule was announced after 9 days of the start of contest....i mean all the 4 top posters have more than 400 posts so to reach that 15% stage they now only have to post new threads instead of posting replies................

i think the posts made in all sections except the jokes section till this new rule was introduced should be counted for the contest as it was the rule for the first 9 days.

Everything sounds good, but please look at my concern, Is it fair to amend rules, i mean excluding of sections, in the middle of the contest?

What will a non- tech guy like me who generally survive in the General offtopic section

Till date I was most active in the said section and suddenly the sections have been excluded.

I think the major spamming has been reduced to very much extent. Don't you think so?

I am not challenging your decisions, it was my view.

Yes. It is quite a bit unfair, as Manish has said, to amend rules (you can't say there is not so many amendments) in the middle of the contest.
Atleast, why don't you count all posts till now, posted in those sections by the members?

That would make the stick more straight...

But, it is actually upto you three to decide...

I have found an increase in the number of copy-paste articles. Many new posts are just the things that I just got as feeds. I'm not blaming them for this. Just pointing out that it may lead to same kind of new threads. They just quote the original and add some lines....

Many have now started digging out old threads from other sections now..
And many of those who were active 'a lot' in Offtopic Discussions and Entertainment sections are now not even looking into them...

As we all might know, Jokes section has not been much active for 10 days now. navgami was the only person still being active there.

here is a suggestion. Could you please apply new rules from the immediate effect. I mean, now onwards, any post under the said sections will not be counted for contest.
