Its that time of the year where in most of the colleges in India organise Culfests....their annual festival....

In my town, we have a lot of colleges organising these culfests .....which i usually love to attend n used to participate when in college....!!! I used to enjoy working n organising these culfest in my college.....it used to b a lot of fun n interaction....plus a lot of talent is found ....

A cul-fest also known as cultural festival is an event organized by colleges in India. Cultural festivals are organized generally by colleges. These culfests are important community events in each of the cities. A lot of these festivals invite national participation across India. It can last from 2 to 5 days depending on the College & the Programme’s organized.
Culfests mainly are organized keeping in mind some of these activities.
•Promotes a sense of cultural activity within an academic background.
•Provides an environment to meet people from different genres…
•Allows ppl to participate in various literary or cultural events, with a spirit of friendly competition.
•Provide entertainment.
•Generate revenue for the college.
•Provide work experience for the student organizers.

The events in a culfest can be broadly classified into three sections:
1. Literary events
Literary events usually include quizzes, word games, creative writing, public speaking, debates, etc.
2. Cultural events
Competitions such as music, dance - footloose, fashion shows, fine arts and drama (got various types), sports, mimicries, etc.
3. Professional events
One or more professionally staged entertainment programs may be scheduled. Typical choices are music concerts, mainstream music shows, a rock show, or lighter jazz fusion gigs, classical concerts, kavi samellans.

Participation in the events may or may not be free, depending on the policy of the individual college. By convention, there is no entry fee for watching any of the literary or cultural events but there is usually an entry charge for the professional events… which is pretty nominal as it is open to the localites.
