Well i have seen some ppl (normally Smoothy, J4X & few) around here saying that 6/8 repo points for u Now what is confusing me that how i can grant some one particular no of points, when i have option of only adding or substract repo points?

with logic's query please clear the many doubts about giving rep's
ie what are the rules giving rep's as many of us here are having doubts about it and the only solution we get here is rep somebody from old threads and then later you can rep others .. please clear that doubt to...!

no, there is no such facility to give a chosen amount of repo points to someone. whenever you give reputaion to any user, he will get the exact number of points which is shown in your profile as your Rep Power. You probably misinterpreted them. for Ex: one might have said "10 points to xyz" ... that doesnt mean he is choosing to give 10 points. the rep power is 10 points in that case and the member is aware that when he gives reputation to someone he will get 10 points. the same member cannot give less than 10 points to someone.

once you give repo points to a particular member, you cannot give reputations to him again before you give it to 10 or 20 (not sure) other members. after you spread reps to 10/20 other members you can rep the same member again. this probably is a measure to avoid continuos repo exchange between two members.


I hope what I said here is correct and should clear the doubts.

There is a post somewhere here that explains the repo system. Today, particularly, I am feeling lazy to search it and provide the link. But it works like this:

• Every person has a rep power. It can be seen on the LHS panel on the post.
• Members start with zero rep power (I believe that it should start from 1 because I lost many points that way).
• When you achieve milestones your rep power increases. For example:
  • when certain post count is reached, the rep power increments by 1
  • when you accumulate certain rep points (given to you by other members), the rep power increases
• When you give a +ve repo to others, the beneficiary's points increase by the rep power that you have.
• To explain, my own rep power is 10. So if I give a +ve repo to someone, that person gets 10 points.
• Vice versa for -ve repo.

I hope now this explains that when I say sometimes that 10 points to xyz, it really means I give him 10 points.

Note that any member (except the admin) can give/take exact points which is same as the rep power. So I can give or take 10 points. I cannot choose that for this member/this post, I will give 5 points and for that I will give only 2 points, etc. It is 10 points (my current rep power) or nothing. When my rep power increases to 11, it will be 11 points or nothing and so on.

I had submitted some suggestions where senior members have certain leeway in awarding points at will. But it seems that this cannot be done.

I think smoothvibes has been very stingy in giving me repo's, especially when I gave him 5.

And I need to reciprocate Admin and rupu.

Sorry if the post was not clear. The table lists the number of instances when I received repo's. These are not points - but repo counts. For example, Admin gave me repo 10 times, rupu 8 times, etc.

Thanks. No hurry. Do it at your leisure. Note that you cannot repo the same person twice unless you repo others in between - you will get the message "You need spread some reputation before you ..."

Sorry. The stats are available for mods only. Normal members can see last 20 reps only.

But if you (or someone) wants the count, there is a thread by smoothvibes, wherein he pasted the screen shots of reps recieved.
