    Exclamation Nothing new...

Just checked out speedtest.net, they've made some changes in their appearance and functionality.

Saw this and was shocked..as has been discussed over and over again on this forum..

17Mbps average for Korea! 1.08 for India...

I heard some news a few months back that the government has some kind of a fund which has money flowing into it from the various telecom companies as some kind of a tax..and which has now accumulated multiple thousand crores....
they were proposing to use that fund to provide free broadband access and higher speeds, and now there's absolutely no discussion about it..

have the politicians gulped the sum into their swiss bank accounts? :w00t:
    DON'T beam me up, Scotty!

Brace for ‘brownout’ as cyberspace fills up
Massive Demand For Services On The Internet Will Lead To Regular Computer Crashes, Warn Experts

    John Harlow

Internet users face regular “brownouts” that will freeze their computers as capacity runs out in cyberspace, according to research to be published later this year.
Experts predict that consumer demand, already growing at 60% a year, will start to exceed supply from as early as next year because of more people working online and the soaring popularity of bandwidth-hungry websites such as YouTube and services such as the BBC’s iPlayer.
It will initially lead to computers being disrupted and going offline for several minutes at a time. From 2012, however, PCs and laptops are likely to operate at a much reduced speed, rendering the internet an “unreliable toy”....

In Urban cities we have many private ISP's who provide BB service. and they don't care about rural areas.

BSNL has taken the project as a Social responsibility "

    out of thread :
I will tell you an incident.
In A village oriented program on DD , the price for various commodities were shown as a slide without Audio.
When I wrote to DD, ( rest of the program all "blah Blah ")
that the farmers ( assuming they see DD programs !) will be at the mercy of local landlords to know the price,
The DD staff said " now education is spreading to villages and villagers/farmers can read and will read soon !" as they are seeing our Literacy program also !
    =============================
The equipment to be installed in Rural Exchanges seem to have a limit of 31 or 32 connections.
    (say like online 24).

The rural user can also get a computer less Rs 4000/= ( subsidised) modem free for one year. etc.

Luckily 7 connections reserved for Panchayat schools etc.

    Update from "somewhere else"!
I am using usof 150 plan from march. You are right eesbebe 31 connections covered whole population in a village.
