I am not sure i got this....

Technically, the closest star to earth is SUN and hence if we consider distance then Star is further away from the moon... So the star & moon is to be interchanged in the quote I Think... Is Star here used metaphorically??

Naren, I am afraid "author unknown" had no knowledge of Science and must have been more of a poet than a scientist !! And he must have said this looking at the night sky where the moon appears bigger and brighter than the stars In effect, I guess what he means is if you aim for 100% fame/success / popularity, you may end up with atleast a fraction of it
