Thread: Beware of PMs

Hi,

I got a PM asking for help, which I didn't reply. I got one today, which looks like a new user making asking a errorful question. I asked him to start a thread. That is all, my inbox is bumped with spam. They also asked for read receipt which I didn't gave. If you get any, please be cautious.

but seriously.. i hate spamming.. i wonder y ppl do such things.. i feel like thrashing them.. they should be permenantly banned.. bloody assholes..

Banning such people doesnt help... they keep coming back with different ids.

banning ip is also not a solution. Dynamic IP - you know

is there a way to ban users based on the MAC id of network adapter?

I also have received quite some PMs asking for help, but never had any spam attack.
And there might be several users who don't know to start a new thread. Someone new might actually get confused with everything. So, it is not always good, in my opinion, to leave messages which look "erroneous".

And if I'm right, you can just block the user, to solve the spam problem.

We will have to seek the help of ActiveX to identify the MAC ID. And, tracking through MAC ID might not be a good choice, due to many reasons, and the users can just disallow ActiveX Control easily.

It was different in my case.. Some "yert" guy but didn't recieved spam attack

you can also report PMs. the same report button in posts is also available in PMs

you can also change your preferences to recieve PMs from only friends and contcts

Please avoid read receipts and similar trackers. Known methods of spammers.

He might have been probably trying to get over the 15 post limit to post links.
Many do things like this in anxiety.
