I think so. Most definitely. The new generation is more drawn to the hip-hop metal culture. My son is no exception.

Good thing so far ... when they grow older and mature they return to classical mood. If not pure classical, the at least to the melodious songs of yesteryears.

As far as I am concerned, I enjoy Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Kumar Gandharva, and all those. At the same time, I listen to ABBA also.

I do agree about indian classical music losing its popularity. All those soothing instrumental and vocal music are taken over by pop songs or acid rock. People hardly listen to hindi songs or any indian music forget classical. If I talk about my frens from north east my school chums they never listen to indian music at all.

Nothing is stationary. In constant motion the future is.Values which you hold close to your heart might become obsolete in the future but it will always matter. That's why classical music will never die.

The reason is those who practice Indian classical music is very less. Talent involved is very low/ Those who study, do it for the sake of competitions and do not contribute to the content. They simply present old keerthanas with 40 - 50 % of the original quality which make other think it is just aaa aa and eeee.

There are a lot of compositions which are too good to ignore. But they will die out the users are so negligible.

i don't believe such old & beautiful thing like Classical music will ever starve for the fans & supporters. Some things in life are beyond all the markings (popularity, fame etc). Their position is like same as the sun's position in sky. U hate then/like them, nothing can affect those things. I myself love classical music. I neither understand anything technical from Classical nor many times understand the words of ragas....but i still love it. it feels good. All i can say is, it may loose the popularity in this era, but it will remain forever. IMO popularity is like the any seasons. it come & go.

I love classical music, but not Indian. whenever I am looking for music to play in the background, I play Western Classical music. Allows me to concentrate better on work than pop, rock and other music.

As far as Indian classical music is concerned, I guess its never been promoted aggressively... Story would have been different if the entertainment industry in India could be as big as American one... Which seamlessly pumps money into its products... naturally, affecting people's taste in music all over the world...

Yes I also feel classical music is losing the importance in India.Almost all music always have some classical note. But pure classical song is totally 'Rag' oriented where "Rag" is using directly. In other few song we get some touch of "Rag".Now once in 'Lucknow ghrana' classical song was so popular we all may know about Bade Ghulam Ali Khan he was the great classical singer also so much popular.I think still lot of people like classical music but problem is that young people is not so much interested in classical even in recent time you can't find much semi-classical song in hindi movie also. Most common reason is influence western music. Now representation of western music in the market very well where Indian classical or even semi-classical is not getting such promotion for young people.

Classical music is not dead. Lot of young kids are learning it.
they will grow up and appreciate it. My daughter just started
carnatic classes. and all my friends' kids are either in carnatic
    of barathanatyam classes.

I don't know about this. What does "behaviour" include? Manners, behaviour in public, attitude?
