    Default CC/Debit Card?

    Hey there,

I just wanted to know how to do online transactions with Debit cards??

Well please don't say you cannot now do online transactions with debit cards, as many Banks offer a new thing known as "Verified by Visa"...
As always i have ICICI debit card [Visa] with Electron on it.. I see Visa [Verfied by Visa-South] states that now you can use Your Debit cards to do online shopping/transactions, all you need to do is to just register your Visa debit cards in Verified by Visa section of your bank's website...

Some review: HDFC's customers/Debit card holders used to use Netsafe to do online transactions, but now i see the new rule of RBI, due to which none of the banks CC/Debit/VCC works....

As for now ICICI CC's/VCC's stopped working I see that http://3dsecure.icicibank.com/ stopped working and as always they say "we will be back, we are working, System under maintenance", and no-proper response from thier side, nor there managers have got any intamation from their higher authorities...

Now my question is about how to do online transactions?? when everything like this has stopped?

Need Ideas/suggestions regarding this, or should i go open a account in another bank?? if so how?

    Waiting for your replies..

EN: I don't know whether this is the appropriate section to post this topic, after i searched whole forums i suppose this is the right section to post, if i am wrong, please correct me....

Just ask for username, password and TPIN from the ICICI bank. Get yourself registered on ICICI Bank.

And you can do online shopping facilitated by the bank.

    @MODS

please put this thread in the appropriate section.

From August 1st, credit card pin is must for online shopping.

For generating pin for ICICI credit card, refer to post # 3 in the following thread: Credit card PIN a must for online shopping

    Thanks nandini for the reply,..
Well can you say how do i get them?? I again went to thier site and i got this reply:

"Do not worry. You can still complete your online transactions as you can register during shopping.

The Verified by Visa/Mastercard Securecode password for your Debit Card is same as your Infinity User ID and Password which you use to log into our Internet Banking Website. So the next time you make an online purchase, simply enter your Infinity ID & Password and complete the transaction to register your card as well as use it for subsequent online transactions.

If you do not have your Internet Banking User ID and/or Password, please call our customer care and request for the same immediately."

Go to your nearest ICICI bank and request them to provide you the userID, password and TPIN. It may take 2 weeks or even longer.

The password will be sent to the address you had provided at the time of opening the account.

I just registered with ICICI. It is a fairly simple procedure.

    1. You are asked to create a custom statement - anything up to 130 characters. It should be kept secret with you. Could be anything like "I live in Pune" to "My brother is my bug". This statement is used to verify identity.

    2. You have to choose a 6 digit numeric only pin. This will be used for online txns.

So far, I have not had a chance to do an online txn; so if someone has done it, please post your result.

p/s. The above procedure is for the Credit Card. I am sorry, I did not read the title

I did couple of online transaction this week. Once you enter your credit card details, it takes you to the page (ICICI Bank Verified By Visa VBV / MasterCard SecureCode Service) where we need to enter the pin. Above the PIN field , the Personal Assurance Message (PAM) (In case of ICICI) is displayed.
There's also a link to "Forgot Pin" in case you have forgotten the PIN.

Earlier in the page (ICICI Bank Verified By Visa VBV / MasterCard SecureCode Service) there used to be a link like "No thanks, Proceed" which allowed to proceed your transaction without entering the PIN. But now this link is not available. I will be mandatory to enter the PIN to proceed your transaction.

Paying utility bills from the ICICI credit card from ICICI portal doesn't cry for PAM. It asks only for Transaction Password and nothing else.

It is always advisable to use credit card rather than a debit card for online transactions. your whole account is accessible through the debit card, if its security is compromised.
The present laws provide greater redressal mechanism for a credit card holder than a debit card holder.

Also, if your bank offers such a facility, go for a virtual credit card with minimum allocated limit. This will minimise the possibility of losses.

The verified by visa/mastercode is still a very new feature and most banks are presently having teething troubles. Presently, the implementation is better for credit cards as that is centrally administered rather than debit cards which is administered by individual banks.
