We are all aware that the country is possibly facing severe drought this year.
Early in May, the weather oracles decided that we are going to have a normal monsoon and the soothsayers further predicted that there will 93% rainfall across the country.
Come June-end, all went wrong - then all sorts of excuses came up: the unexpected cyclonic activity in Bay of Bengal in May, El Nino, etc.
Yesterday, the newspapers in Pune announced that the dams in the Bhima basin are only 58% full. The Met office said that further rains are unlikely for the time being. The basic pattern in and around Pune is that we get most of our rains from 15-June to 15-Aug. By the time of the Ganesha festival, the rains are nearly gone with a few sporadic bursts now and then.
So a water cut of 30% was announced - till the start of the next monsoon. Met dept said further rains are unlikely unless depression develops in nearby areas.
Today, it is raining cats and dogs.
