I always felt that people should learn at least two Indian languages - the local language of the state and Hindi (if not residing in a Hindi-speaking state).

One should at least be able to make one understood in the local lingo.

Ok, here is what I was pointing out on how much we know of other regions. Telugu is the primary language of AP, though a sizable number in TN speaks it. Both are not from TN! And btw, most people in Hyderabad are comfortable in Hindi too.

No offense, I was guessing the probability of a Gujarati knowing Tamil and living in Hyderabad too small, but understood.
