    Default National language of India?

also i hope, as an indian i can use Hindi (Indian National Language) arnd here on the forum,............
Good suggestion. BUT use only DEVANAGIRI script as a true Indian !
Google Translate and BabelFish will come to our ( illiterates in Hindi) rescue !
A separate forum will go a long way in IBF 's appeal.
    Restrict to Technical forum/s.
    to start with BSNL forum.

FYI, Hindi is our national language by constitution. Hindi is not only a language, its pride for our nation. So are other languages. But our ancestors must have some view in mind, while giving so importance to Hindi. Every nation must have one unique language of its own, along with other languages in it. Hindi is that unique language.

To bhaiyya, hindi bolane se itana parhej kyo? Angrezi bolane me, jo ki hamari bhasha nahi hain, tumko koi samasya nahi, to hindi se kyo?

    Jai Hind.

    @logik
Why did you use English script to say something in Hindi ?
    Please use Devanagri Script.

By the way Google translate may have facility to translate
other Indian Languages ( more than 600 ) but
will stick to official count of 20 or so Indian Languages.
    Not tried.

I use Google translate to get info in other language web sites too.
    Spanish/Polish/Russian/ Chinese /French etc.

You wanted Hindi to be used in this Forum.
Idea was good, but you cannot post your OWN comments
    in Devanagari Script here.

So users with no no knowledge of English
cannot read your Hindi in English script.
So when you know English why post in Anglicised Hindi ?

Para two: "southies" . Very bad observation.
Show your Ignorance of History and Geography of India,
and about the Languages used. What about "Westerners"
"Easterners" etc ? And "Northerners" include
    Punjabi, Haryanavi. Kashmiri, Bhojpuri, etc.

    Para two;
if you are aware of an Internet broadband forum In
HINDI only, please give the link here.
I will respond to you in Hindi there .

Those are regional languages you are talking about.
Hindi is our official language and not national language.
Further, Article 343 of the Constitution declares Hindi as the official language of the Union of India. English remains the additional official language. It is the authoritative legislative and judicial language. In fact, one could say that English is the official language of India for all practical purposes. For many educated Indians, English is virtually their first language though a large number of Indians are multi-lingual.

Then what is the difference between national and official language? The national language defines the people of the nation, culture and history. The official language is used for official communication. While the national language can become the official language by default, an official language has to be approved by law in order to become the national language.
here is a special provision for the development of Hindi under Article 351, though.

According to article 351, It shall be the duty of the Union to promote the spread of the Hindi language, to develop it so that it may serve as a medium of expression for all the elements of the composite culture of India and to secure its enrichment by assimilating without interfering with its genius, the forms, style and expressions used in Hindustani and in the other languages of India specified in the Eighth Schedule, and by drawing, wherever necessary or desirable, for its vocabulary, primarily on Sanskrit and secondarily on other languages

Good lord what did they teach you in school?
Don't tell me you are a shivsainik now!

And I'm not against regional languages. In-fact I'm proud of them.

Ji ye to mera farz tha.

    And hu? Who played 'antakshari"?

Aur main bharat ki har language ki side hun.
Bat sirf ye thi ki mujhe sharam aati hai ki hamari koi rashtrabhasha nahi hai aur log is galat fehmi me rehte hain ki hindi ko baki bhasha se upar mana jata hai jiski wajah se sab ladai karte hain for eg Marathi's in mumbai mocking the North Indians. .
    No national language.
Just regional and official but not national.

Come on India , we need a rashtrabhasha..

If u don't agree please let me know

    @essbebe
dood, ur skipping one imp point......when i said i am gonna put things in hindi.....it doesn't mean that i want whole forums language to b hindi. today no one gives a damn abt our national language. i am at least trying to do serve my national language in my own way. FYI, i never had idea, how to use devnagari scripts......so never tried it. Accepted that i am using English alphabets for posting few things in hindi. but hey, i am atleast showing some respect for Hindi . thats important for me. i don't care if i can't use the devnagari script on the online forums . i've respect for my national language & i am only supporting it. thats all.

oh one more thing, abt my southee comment. if ur feelings feeling acceot my apologies. i've no intention of hurting anyones feeling. But what I told here is a fact. I’ve experienced it personally on my tour to south in 2004. have u ever been to north? If u ask someone there in 99% of ppl can reply u in same language. This is not the definite situation in south, hardly few ppl there are willing to help u in hindi. They mostly prefer English or mother tongue.

I haven’t seen a southee central minister who vowed or gave any statement in hindi. (one or two exceptions can be there, but i doubt it).

I’ve always admired the southee ppl for their talent. I am die hard fan of Dr.APJ, one of the finest man & ex president from south India. Have u ever noticed one thing abt Kalam sahib? He never gave any of his speeches in assemblies or at govt ceremonies in any language other than hindi. Learn something from this gr8 man. In fact we all shud learn.

I got nothing more to say. I am not blaming anyone particular community or region. I think we all shud have some respect for the national language. & plz don’t ever argue abt what abt other languages & BLAH BLAH. Y r u making such idiotic comparisons?

What exactly u wanna prove? is it not enough for u that hindi is our national language, to reply in hindi? I don’t get it?

Enough said. When it comes to the matter of national pride, I hate arguing. Perhaps my last post in this matter. If u wanna aruge, all the best. Excuse me as being ignorant.

    ~Logik~

PS: no hard feelings for any one personally.

    Default National language of India?

In another thread there is a heated debate over what is the national language of India.

Can we please carry on here

Some one reported a few posts in this thread but I do not find anything offensive or even harsh for it to be deleted.

I wont comment on what the National language is but to me a language is nothing more then a way to convey your messages/emotions to another individual and I would use the one which does it best.

Can we take the language discussion here : http://www.indiabroadband.net/genera...age-india.html (National language of India?)

I think we should stick to English in main forums. We can use Hindi in non technical threads. This is because we have some friends who do not understand Hindi.

    @ Logik,
the issue of Hindi been the so called national language had been hotly discussed earlier too.

Legally speaking Hindi is NOT the National Language, its the Official Language, as per the Indian Official Language Act. In fact, the Constitution gives equal status of National Language to all the major languages of India. Further, even for the purpose of Official Language, the Country has been grouped into A, B and C States and 100% official communication in Hindi is mandatory only in Group A States.

Demographically, as per the 2001 census (the latest available), the number of people in India having Hindi as their primary language is far outnumbered by the number of people NOT having Hindi as their primary language.

A language is a means of communication. Whatever language best gets across the message is the best suited one. There is no problem with Hindi as one of the means of communication. Problem arises when certain groups, who are most often not even aware of the actual technical and legal position, create a virtual box around themselves and start demanding that Hindi should be the ONLY means of communication.

Coincidentally, in the last 100 years, beginning with Rabindranath Tagore, a number of Indians and persons of Indian origin have won the Nobel Prize, and none of them had Hindi as their mother tongue.
